hi guys got my sr2 back im on her right now. I am experiencing very strange issues overclocking. i did receive my same board back i checked the serial number. i had shipped the cpus with the board because i couldn't find the protectors they sent those back HOWEVER, they did not send back the secondary back plates i needed for my water block. so i snatched a pair off of my asus rampage iii extreme and formula. It is all back together but has been acting rather strange doesn't seem to be as fast AND WILL NOT LET ME OVERCLOCK AT AT ALL. Wolf can you please send me a copy of your instructions again? i don't understand why the board would be fixed but now i am COMPLETELY unable to overclock. I did lose my settings but i remembered them for the most part except the cpu settings c1e turbo boost etc. I just don't get it. it will not overclock from stock speeds one bit. i did put the l5520s in the other motherboards i just mention rampage iii extreme and formula and used them for a little bit till i had another power surge and that fried my asus formula. i now had the electrican install the three outlet plugs in my house (yes my house was built in the 1940s and they skimped out on quality there) so i was wondering if that would possibly be an issue? or could it be that the cpu's have seen better days since they have been in motherboards that suffered power surges? i have the l5520s i could throw in there to test and see about overclocking but i love the 12mb cache on the l5639s. i was planning on getting some x5670's soon and hopefully being able to hit almost 4 ghz per core. my alternate machine i was using was an 8 core amd 8350 cpu and asus m59a7 and had an aftermarket cooler master heat sink no overclocking and was playing in 4k just as good as the sr2. please help guys i really don't want this to be rma number two. it seems like they just test it see it works and send it back they don't stress test it or anything to check for stability. PLEASE HELP GUYS. My usb ports are even acting up and my wifi is cutting in and out. everything is connected properly even the extra 6 pin connectors by the 8 pins, but i was able to overclock before fine with just the 8 pins. thanks in advance everyone.
Joel

Guys cmon a little help here. Wolf are you still around? i need to get these cpu's to at least 3 ghz to play games in 4k. i don't want to get some x5670s and have the same problem not being able to overclock. Liquid cooling is pretty much stupid if you're not overclocking. i mean ya your equipment will last longer but why waste the extra money if you're not gonna try to get some more out of the board when you know it has the potential to do so? i had it at 3.12ghz per core before no problem. Now i cannot even overclock just by 1 bclck it will give me code ff. Guess i need to get some x5670s.....

    Follow my steps in order!!
    1. take out the cpu's and using a hand lens see if you can find any bent pins , if yes time to call evga , if no go to step 2.
    2. Reinstall the cpu , make sure its seated well and install your Water block back. Remove all your ram's and keep only one for each cpu also make sure its at the dimm 1 ( I'm not really sure if its called dimm1 or dimm0 ) *** but before installing that ram please make sure to check that ram working ok without any errors.
Reinstall the psu , gpu and connect the mouse/keyboard .
    3. Remove the cmos battery and hold the power button for 45 seconds (make sure the psu is at off state).
Then reinstall it and power on the pc , get into bios and load defaults .
Reboot , then before trying your old OC settings , I'd suggest to start with a low bclk bump , see if you still get the ff code.
****If you still do : there is a jumper near the cpu ( cant remember which one for sure , may x-cool or other one )
change positions and hit clear cmos then try to do a little OC .
May be you can check with 1 cpu on socket 0 to avoid further complications. To do that : disable socket 1 through jumper .
Do the OC on single cpu and see what it shows up.
You can PM me at anytime . I would be glad to help !!
I was a SR-2 FAN boy lol . I pretty much know its in and out . Its a damn monsta , if you get to know each other very well she will show you wonders.

I'll try tour method when I get a chance hopefully tomorrow I'm gonna try the l5520 cpus I have because I know they're good. If I have no problems then I know it's the cpu. Ram has been sitting in a static bag and yes its the same one I checked the serial number . I feel it could be cpu related possibly bent pins. I will try the l5520 tomorrow. Like I said booted temps were fine at stock clock speeds and I ram prime 95 for 4 hrs temps didn't get hot at all It was working fine. Then go to restart her after that shut down and bsod 124 before it loads windows not good guys. This sucks. I love this its a moment my grandmother who raised me bought it for me before she died. It's very sentimental to me....The bios version is the newest one I believe. I'll check tomorrow unless they flashed it back to the old one....

It would be extremely odd that you got back the same board from RMA. I went ahead and looked up your RMA, and I can confirm that you were sent a different board back. Your old board serial number is completely different in our records, not to mention your replacement shipped on 10/7 and your old board didn't go through testing until 10/8 in which it did fail testing. The testing and ship dates alone show there's no possible way you received back the same board, which would explain why the board reacts differently now.

What speed memory are you running with the board? You may not have the right timings, frequency, and voltage set for your RAM and memory controller. The memory controller on the L5639 processor you list in your signature has a 1066Mhz memory controller. For testing purposes,to start make sure your memory frequency is set to 1066Mhz and see if you can get the CPU to overclock from there. Once you establish your CPU overclock, then work on getting the memory up to it's rated frequency.

That makes sense then. Idk if this board is fully functional it crashes from time to time even on stock settings. I reseated both cpus left ram speed alone and even included mch strp to 1067. My old board I just messed with cpu voltage vtt and ram voltage and it over clocked fine. It adjusted it's own timings. I keep getting 124 which is hardware failure I'm pretty sure. Appreciate the input I'll try again but it seems it doesn't want to over clock a bit. This board just likes stock settings and it sucks I'll have to purchase a set of x5680s just to run games cuz 2.13ghz is just not gonna cut it. My 8 core amd build is performing better atm.

Try disabling one CPU and overclocking the other CPU, then try the other processor, this will let us see if it's happening on both sockets or just one.

Ok now I'm really mad. I read in the book and adjusted the jumpers as it states now I'm getting code ff and now the board will not boot. I guess it's time for another rma. I've done everything by the book and as you advised and now the board doesn't work at all. I put the jumpers back like it says still not working. Made sure they were facing the correct direction and everything. Wish I had my old board it never did anything retarded like this one. Well except till the thunderstorm came. So what can I do now setup another rma? It's gonna cost me more money to ship the board again.

A pay top-dollar for my first SR-2 and they send me a used SR-2 with fingerprints all over mobo and hair in box.
    Like a f-ing pizza hut.
EVGA probably dont have any more new SR-2 in house.
So old used stuff to RMA customers....

I'm guessing that's the reason. This board actually had the protective tape over the heat sink still on. I was surprised! Just got it together about to try some overclocking

I am pretty sure there is no such thing as "new" SR-2s any more, both replacements I've sent have clearly been refurbs, and one was outright faulty (wouldn't even finish posting). It makes me wonder what they will do in 8 years time if my SR-2 fails just before the warranty expires. In 8 years' time, the SR-2 will be the equivalent of a good Core 2 motherboard today - may not be worth much, but it will certainly still be a good usable machine, which means there may well still be a lot of us using the ones we have.
