Does Evga 970 GTX SSC use the same Heat Sink (solid plate over GPU) as Evga 970 GTX FTW?

I need an Official from Evga to respond please. I've been told by some it does and by others it doesn't. I've read on the forum here that only the Evga 970 GTX FTW Edition uses the solid plate over the GPU and all the other 970's (SSC version too) use the 2 Heat Pipes contacting the GPU with the 3rd pipe that doesn't touch the GPU.  I've tried asking the Contact Us Support staff through Email but all that person said was, "The 970 SSC uses the , which is the same as the 970 FTW version".

But its been clearly stated by another Evga Staff Member that the FTW version and SSC version are not the same... So which is it?

Does the SSC version have the solid aluminum plate over the GPU or the two Heat pipes with the "Tag along 3rd Wheel Heat Pipe"?

Please clear this up for me!

Not an official, but from reviews I have read, only the FTW has the solid plate contacting the GPU.  In case you are worried about the other design, it is a not a flaw that the third pipe does not touch the GPU.  The third pipe is smaller (6mm) and its purpose is to draw heat from the overall cooling unit - it was not designed to touch the GPU.   The two large 8mm pipes are centered across the GPU.  One review I read said the third pipe removes 2-3 degree celsius from the overall cooling unit all else equal - basically it is a heat pipe for the cooler.

The SSC has the 3 heatpipe design as the standard and SC.

970 FTW and 980 ACX 2.0 models use the solid heatsink surface design.

No, it is not that i am worried that about the design like some people are and i already know how, why and its purpose. The fact is the FTW design is simply superior. Thats why i was asking. If the SSC had the same design as the FTW I really would not care. Unfortunatly its not as Jacob just said. Which is why I asked.

I was led astray in this matter. Not happy!

Just for the sake of extra verification, I actually own a 970 SSC, and it has the three-heatpipe design.

That's the only gripe I have against EVGA which advertised the ACX 2.0 on the SSC model which is not the ACX 2.0 on the FTW edition...
Why would they do that...Why not call it ACX 1.5 or ACX 1.0 rev...

How can customers make the difference between ACX 2.0 and ACX 2.0!?!?!

But the SSC is a great card anyways and mine run at 62-68 degrees under full load and idle at 28 degrees.  Can't be happier with the card, just disappointed in the lack of transparency on the EVGA part about those coolers...

I believe, ACX 2.0 is just the fans. It has nothing to do with which heat sink is used.

Oh! Then no gripes at all lol
But still, would have been cool to have a bit more infos about it at the begining.

Anyways, I love my SSC and the backplate is sexy! :P

Oh, some gripes are warranted. I am stepping up to a 970 FTW because the additional VRM and heat sink with base plate were not known to me when I bought the 970 SC. Granted, when I researched the card I didn't use an electron microscope or anything, but I learned my lesson...

Gripes are totally merited! How in the world is anyone supposed to know that the difference between ACX 2.0 and 1.0 is the fans? Especially when the heat sinks are different? One has the 3 heat pipe design, the other is solid single block contact, but the difference has NOTHING to do with the type of ACX? So ACX 1.0 is crappy fans and regular 3 heat pipes, and ACX 2.0 is EITHER improved fans with 3 heat pipes, or better fans and solid contact? 3 Models of cooling, with 2 different names? Are you kidding? And its not mentioned ANYWHERE on the box or in the packaging, and ONLY in the forums when you dig for it?

Is someone just trying to commit occupational suicide? :P

My rude and antagonizing questions aside, does anyone know if the solid plate design cools better than the heat pipe design? If so, by how much?

Well..I can't speak for the solid plate FTW model. But my 970 ACX 2.0 with the 3 heat pipes idles around 28-30 C and never gets above 60C while gaming. I play with Vsync on adaptive. No coil whine. Also...obviously the cooling  will depend on your case ventilation. The heatpipe design is fine IMO and is getting a bad rap. Buy with confidence.

Oh, great to hear! Thank you for your feedback, its a relief to know :) It probably means I'll stick with my plan to get the SC's then.
