Made a mistake in my last post so I edited, should say reference and non reference are being built by partners.

The real question here is why are the reference cards with blower style coolers (04G-P4-2980-KR & 04G-P4-2982-KR) more expensive than the ACX 2.0 versions (04G-P4-2981-KR & 04G-P4-2983-KR)? Because the cooler cost more to make? Because EVGA is ordering the reference blower cooler from NVIDIA directly?

What will constitute a 'reference' card from now on? Will there be such a thing? Jacob you make it sound like all cards going forward will be ACX style only, and there won't be any of the 'reference' style blower cards with the rear exhaust.. That seems totally retarded when clearly there is a significant demand for them. I wish someone, be it EVGA or NVidia, would stop dancing around and just give us the whole fricking story!

Because, they want you to buy up those ACX cards... With no answers, we are just left to speculate.

I was hoping the price increase was because maybe they are selling the cards with the BACKPLATES attached now? That's the only reason why I can a price increase should happen. The 970 FTW is now 379.99 instead of 369. =/ With the job I have, that going to take me a long time to save up for that card. But Evga doesn't care about us small non rich folk! ^.^

I heard to stay away from the Supe rclocked versions, Something about a flaw in its design? Anyone have a super clocked version and notice anything weird with it?

Nothing "wrong" per say with it, just the cooler isn't made for extreme overclocks. Only 2 heatpipes cover the processor and there aren't many heatpipes to transfer the heat. Again it works perfectly fine when running solo and overclocked. Just not going to get the extreme extra's you would from a FTW version, even though those have aluminum heatsinks and not copper.....very lame...but at least their surface area is much bigger.

I have 2 and there is nothing wrong with either. No coil whine, stays relatively cool (warm here recently, and the ventilation in my house sucks big time). I'm not really doing any heavy overclocking on the cards since I only have a 1920X1080 XB270H G-Sync monitor and getting over 100FPS with DSR on for most games is more then fast enough for me at the moment. The base system minus video cards is getting upgraded after tax season.

Intel Core I7 4790K @ 4.8GHZ
2X EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 SLI @ Default Clocks until drivers improve
2X Samsung Evo 840 SSD
ACER XB270H G-Sync 27 Inch monitor
Corsair Vengance Pro 2400Mhz DDR3 2X8GB
Some fans and other stuff.

Just to be sure, all of this change is speaking of the GTX 980 only correct? Not the 970?

I am curious about the reason behind it as well..
