I don't think I have ever seen such a close race!  We got to within 250K, then things leveled out for a while.  2 days ago, we gained 10K, then yesterday they gained back 33K.  Today so far (using free-dc) we have gained 99K.  It looks like some of our reinforcements are starting to have an effect!

Still I am going to put together parts of an old hex-core system for extra "insurance".

My i7 seems to be crunching well at 4.3GHz (HT on) so far, hottest core is only 72c.
Edit: Guess I spoke to soon, just got a bsod, backed it down to 4.2GHz and it's rock solid now.

Shame I won't get my hex-core xeon till after this is over.

My Highs i7 52C and my 4P 43C and 2P 41C
i7 are all on water and both 2P & 4P are on Air.
The 2P/4P take 3.5 to 4 hours to complete one task while my i7 (from 4.2 - 4.4 MHz) take only 1.2 to 1.5 hours to complete one task.
AMD CPU's a really Slow compared to Intel CPU's. This is true with most BOINC Projects.
All AMD CPU's really provide are a lot of cores.

Now up to 144 Cores running 100% on all my i7 Rigs

Ok, I'm thinking about setting up another hard drive and running this on my 4P for the last part of the race.. how easy is it to set up in Linux?.. I'd run it on my current version but it's only 10.10 and I don't think it's compatible? I don't want to mess with the current version as it's a rock solid folder. I have time to do it today...

Run the below commands

sudo service boinc-client stop
wget http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_7.2.42_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh
sudo chmod a+x  boinc_7.2.42_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh
sudo sh  boinc_7.2.42_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh
cd BOINC
sudo cp boinc* /usr/bin/
sudo service boinc-client start
Works on MINT from what I have read.

Note: You will need to install the base BOINC Client first through Ubuntu Software Center (12.xx Only), you need to do this only once. Then the below process below and newer updates should work as shown below. Thanks Viper97.
Ubuntu 14.xx installs the current Version 7.2.42
PS http://boinc.berkeley.edu is back up now.

Re: POTM October 2014 - WAD & POGS 2014/10/26 08:45:46 (permalink)
really easy.
Download and install the latest Ubuntu LTS.
Once you´ve got that, install BOINC from the Ubuntu software center and you´re good to go.

Berkeley seems to be down atm, so forget about updating the client as described by bcavanaugh.
pogs runs just as well on the 7.0.27 version

They are back up. Link to all software http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
If you install 14.xx the Ubuntu Software Center will install the current version 7.2.42
You only need to update 12.xx with the above commands.
Also if your GPU fails to start just run sudo service boinc-client stop wait a few then sudo service boinc-client start

While I have been watching the POGS race I have also been taking a peek at the POGS numbers over on Formula Boinc. We have greatly reduced the lead [H] has built up on FB. We are currently 8,814,710 points away from taking the number 1 spot for POGS on FB.

Ok.. that was easy to get going! I don't like this version of BOINC manager.. I see 32 instances of fitsedwrapper when I click the dropdown, and the progress bar, but no progress for individual units..is there a better version I can download for Ubuntu?
Resource share is 100 percent, 32 more cores at 2.5GHZ FTW!! Now have everything I can give for CPU power.. 54 total cores

edit: running Ubuntu 14.04 and downloaded BOINC from download manager.

Nevermind! found the "hidden toolbar" clicked "view".. there it is

I run at 95% that takes 30 Cores and on my 4P I use 96$ and that takes 62 Cores.
I leave one core for the GPU and one Core free.
You will see fitsedwrapper running for each Core or Each Task Running.

Thanks bcavanaugh...
I have no GPU to worry about.. just using the onboard graphics.
The procs are 6128's (8 cores each) I just let them all run 100% as I only use it for DC work, CPU only.
I can see all the work now.. all's well!

Curious, I just noticed 1 of my quad cores had restarted. I don't OC it and it runs cool, but restarted anyway. It's back to crunching now and l'll try to get it across the finish line before I go nuts trying to figure it out.

On a side note, what time period is the average work based on in the boinic manager? Mine hasn't become stable yet. Its currently at around 3500 and just wondering if this is around where a x5650 @4ghz should be at.
