Crunching @ EVGA has locked horns, in an epic battle, with a team from a land called UK. The battle has been waging for 3 weeks and has but 1 week to go.

The brave EVGA clan has held the #1 spot for the first 22 days but has fallen into second now despite growing in strength and numbers. A formidable foe is the clan from UK.

This is but a simple request to our folding brothers. If anyone wants to join the fight, all we need is some of your spare/idle CPU cores for the next week, or as long as you see fit. Every work unit counts at this point.

The project is the user friendly, theSkyNet POGS, a galaxy survey project. The work units average 1 or 2 hours and are assigned 1 per core. You are in control of how many you get and the number of cores you want to use. They also run cool imho.

So what say you folders who don't run SMP work? GPU's are not allowed in this battle, just looking for otherwise idle CPU cores.

Post here, or in this crunching thread and we'll help you get started you if you need it.

Thanks in advance.

    POGS is indeed CPU only.

ok I went and downloaded BOINC and am running a skynet project under the EVGA team. (I am at work - so it is taking me a little bit to set this up)
Could one of you check and make sure I am in the right place for this competition. I used my folding name robbysites.
I am new to this and set it up on the fly. Any feedback would be appreciated.

For anyone who hasn't crunched before it's not too hard to set it up.

First download the BOINC client, think of it as the crunching version of FAH v7 (only better).

Then head over to theSkyNet POGS project site and create an account on the left side of the page.  If you want to join other crunching projects later, make sure to use the same email account for all projects.

Log in and click on "your account"

Then at the top right there is a section for joining a team.  Click "find a team" and search for keyword "evga".  Click on crunching@evga and then "join" (about halfway down the page).  Make sure afterwards that your team shows up correctly on the "your account" page.

You are now done on the POGS site.
Next install the BOINC client and run it.

At the top select view -> advanced (if the only option is simple view you are already in advanced view) and then tools -> computing preferences.  Here you can set up how and when boinc runs.  Make sure "use at most __% of processors" is set at 100 to use all cores/threads.  Lowering this will leave threads free.  I leave one or two threads free so I can run F@H on my GPU at the same time.  On my 3930k (12 threads), 92% leaves one thread free and 84% leaves two.  Leave the "cpu time" setting alone (should be 100%).

Next go to tools -> add project or account manager.  Select add project and then next.  In the box on the left scroll down to skynet POGS and click on it to highlight it and click next.

Log in with your account info from the POGS site you created earlier.  Under the Projects tab you should see POGS show up and tasks will start running under the Tasks tab.  Highlight the project and click update to download any changes you make on the pogs website.  "No new tasks" works like oneunit in folding and will finish all downloaded tasks.  "Suspend" is like pause in folding.  You can also go to activity -> suspend to suspend all projects, otherwise make sure everything in activity menu is set to "use based on preferences".  If you are folding on your gpu then select suspend gpu, although POGS does not have gpu tasks anyway.

For any further help refer to our crunching forum and feel free to ask questions in the thread posted in the OP.

    Happy crunching!

    Thanks Opolis,
It appears to be setup correctly and I will complete my first project in about 30 mins. It's easy to set up, I just wanted to make sure I did this correctly. I will add some more CPUs to this when I get off work.

http://boincstats.com/en/bam/ is also a great way to manage BOINC Projects.
I now have a total of 133 Core running and 123 are running 7x24 on POGS.

I have a lot of fire power, it's just heat vs cost that keeps me low power. It's cooler here this week so I can push some hot air.

    awesome!
if you need help, just give us a shout!
Running it in Linux? You can download the boinc manager there from the synaptics package.
It will then also download all necessary dependencies
