Please help.  I have 4 sticks of DDR2 800MHz memory that are only running at 667MHz.

No you did not just time travel back to 2007, yes I know I have an ancient PC.

Specs:
2 sticks of OCZ 1GB 6400
pic:

2 sticks of PYN 2GB 6400
pic:

Please Note: I've tried each pair separately and each pair by themselves will run at 800MHz.

Nvidia 680i mobo (122-CK-NF68)
Intel Core 2 duo 2.4
Geforce 285 GTX
Windows 8.1 64-bit

All default settings, no overclocking, BIOS updated

BIOS settings:
CPU:

MEMORY:

VOLTAGES:

I've checked the mobo's manual and I'm sure I have the placement right (PYN brand at 0 & 2, OCZ at 1 &3, tried OCZ on 0 & 2 as well) and I am seeing 6GB of memory during bootup and in Windows. As I said I've tried each pair individually and they will run at 800MHz if it's just the 2GB OCZ pair or just the 4GB PYN pair.

I noticed that if I go into BIOS and change the FSB Memory Clock Mode from 'Auto' to 'Linked' I can change the FSB speed, which changes the memory speed.  If I change the FSB from 1066 to 1280 the memory speed changes to 800MHz.  Picture to illustrate (haven't actually made these changes yet):

This changes my CPU speed as well though from 2400 to 2880.  Would these be major changes and would I be pushing my system?  Never overclocked anything before.

If I can't fix this then which is better: 4GB @ 800MHz or 6GB @ 667MHz? I'll be using this computer for gaming. It actually can run games from within the past year at decent settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the forums..Making the following changes should configure the RAM properly to run at it's rated speed without any overclock.

FSB - Memory Clock Mode: [Unlinked]
FSB (QDR), MHz: [1066]
MEM (DDR), MHz: [800]
Memory Timing Setting: [Expert]
tCL (CAS Latency): 5
tRCD: 5
tRP: 5
tRAS: 12
Command Per Clock (CMD): 2T
Manually lock in the memory voltage to the 1.850V

Verify with CPU-Z which should say the DRAM Frequency is 400MHz, meaning the DDR (Double Data Rate) RAM is effectively running at it's rated 800MHz.

No problem, glad to help..Now, with the Memory Clock unlinked from the FSB, you could work on a CPU overclock (if you wanted to) without affecting the memory frequency..The problem was that you had them linked instead of unlinked and when you changed the FSB (QDR) to make the memory run at 800MHz, it also raised the CPU frequency..Similarly, if you were doing a CPU overclock and you raised the FSB (QDR) to acheive a desired CPU frequency, that would also raise the memory frequency, perhaps to an unstable/unbootable level..Should you choose to OC the CPU and run into problems or need help, make another post about it in this EVGA Intel 5/6/7 Series Motherboards Forum section and PM me (but i'll prolly see it anyway)..I guess one could say that I'm one of the forum's "seasoned veterans" of OC'ing Core 2 processors/Socket 775 platforms.
