Hi guys,

today I received my 3 GTX 980 SC with reference cooler. I installed them successfully, but when I run 3D Mark my screen blink few times and PC freezes. I tried Battlefield 4, while game loading screen is blinking and after loading is done I can here widows error sound, black screen and everything freezes again. I tried all cards separately they work fine, but as soon as I enable SLI it crashes. I tried 2 way SLI still getting the same problem. I have 3 GTX 980 SC with ACX 2.0 cooler they work perfectly fine, I decided to buy cards with reference cooler because ACX 2.0 getting very hot under load in 3Way sli. Can you please help me with your advice what should I try, should I do RMA or should I do some more testing? I reinstalled windows, thought maybe something was linked to my old cards and was conflicting with new cards, but it didn't helped. Few times I did clean driver installation.

Thank you!

Try resetting your CPU & RAM to default speeds and retest.

Ok, try downclocking the cards -105 from default clocks on both the core a memory then retest.

Ok, I will try it, just want let you know that I was running 3 GTX 980 with higher clocks with out any problems. Still trying your advice tho!

Try SLI'ing all the blower cards with one of the 980 SC ACX 2.0 cards. Put the ACX on bottom and the blower on top when SLI'ing. See if you can find a faulty card.

I see you reinstalled o/s and drivers clean. With multi-card setups I usually install the drivers with only 1 card installed, and then add the 2nd card afterwards and switch it to SLI in NVidia panel. Try that perhaps?

Also blow the PCI-E slots out with some compressed air, maybe there's a bit of dust bunny jammed in there.

    Hope you resolve successfully.

    Otherwise pizdets.

I have heard I don't know if it will fix but with the X99 boards if you have in the Bios the PCIE set to auto with running any multicard SLI, Trisli, Quad SLi will kill the cards performance completely. I would try to go into your Bios and set your lanes each to GEN 3 for your motherboard vs. the default setting of auto. Hopefully that will help it.

Yeh it's really strange, my other GTX 980's works fine in the same PCI-E slots, but when I plug reference cooler once they dont work not even in 2sli. I made test with each card separately in 3D mark, they are getting around the same numbers. Will try again add cards one by one.

I just got 2 GTX 980 SC with reference cooler today and am having the same issues. I am trying the above suggestions with no luck. They both work fine by themselves or with SLI disabled.

Nothing helps guys, is there any other ideas? I reset entire bios to default no luck, do you think I should start RMA? Can it be my power supply? Is Reference cooler cards consume more power vs ACX 2.0? I ordered EVGA 1600 PS today, just in case. My current one is 1200w

Nope, 1200 is overkill for 3 980's. Ever consider putting your acx cards that you have under water?

No luck here. One thing I did find out is that if I don't run things in fullscreen it works fine. I called support and they said it may be some sort of compatibility issue with my Motherboard which is an ASUS p9X79 that ran my 690 with no issues. I cant see why it would run fine in windowed mode and not fullscreen though, doesn't sound like a motherboard issue.

I have EVGA X99 Classified, I doubt there is any compatibility issues here. I have EVGA cards installed on EVGA motherboard.

It does seem very strange the both of you are having same identical issue. Did you try to tweet @EVGAJacob and ask with linking this thread? He is extremely helpful I have seen and pretty quick to assist that way. Just thinking every avenue to help.
