Sad that my note 2 will never see this update as it's EoL.
Soon time to get a new one anyway, though which one should I get: Note 3 ($100) or 4 ($300)? (Can't live without a stylus lol)

Lollipop is coming to my Droid Maxx, but it's time for an upgrade.  Deciding between Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo (I'm on Verizon).  Was considering the G3 and Note 4, but with the specs on the new Moto devices, I have narrowed down to just those 2.

Very similar phones.  Nexus = Bigger Screen (6" vs 5.2").  Turbo = bigger battery (3900 mAh vs 3200 mAh).  Turbo = higher megapixel camera (21mp vs 13mp).

I think 5.0 will be made for my Note 3, not sure. If it does I'll skip the Note 4 this time around.

Can't wait! I've heard from a few sources that it increases battery life on the Nexus 5 significantly thanks to ART. I wonder whether they'll be pushing OTA on Friday on Nexus devices...?

Looks like OTA updates for Nexus devices will be end of November at the latest.

Is there any word on the Tegra Note 7?
I've been getting very quick updates from 4.2 through 4.4.2 since I got mine. I've looked around and only techradar even mentioned the TN7 at all, and they said it would be eVGA that would need to announce the support coming or not, as nVidia only manages the Shield Tablet.

That is not accurate.  NVIDIA handles the software updates for both the Tegra Note 7 and Shield Tablet.  Just thought I'd clear that up for you.

At this time, I do not have any information on Lollipop and TN7.  We will let you know when we hear something.

    Thanks,
    Rob

I've been running the developer preview on my Nexus for a couple months. It changes a lot, but mostly for the better. I've always run ART on my Nexus 5, even in the KitKat days (it's right there in the developer options), so I didn't notice an increase in battery life. The battery saver feature works pretty well though. If any of you have any questions about the OS itself I'd be happy to answer.

Yea stock android gets updates first, Nexus and Google Play Edition phones. Then everyone else, the updates get pushed out in waves too so it may take some time for your devices to receive them.
I can answer most questions since it's my job lols. Just PM me :) I think lollipop has quite nice things done to it but I can already see how many things people will complain about it lols.
I'm also diggin that N6 charger

Not a fan of the nexus 6 due to its size. I like to carry my phone in my pocket.. I don't feel like having to get a belt holster and feel like I'm carrying a loaf of bread of my side in terms of the size.

More megapixels does not equate to being necessarily better. The Z3 is in the 20 MP range yet it gets beat by other phones with 8, 13, and 16 MP. Software processing is a huge piece, as is sensor size itself (the N6 is a 1/3" sensor, not sure of what the Turbo will be). More MP with a small sensor typically equates to poor low light performance due to the small pixels not being able to capture enough light with typical shutter times.

You can fit it in your pocket as long as you aren't the size of a child my friend. The size may turn you off, but until you see and use a device with a large screen, I wouldn't make a judgment yet. It's hard to go back to a small screen for most people.

I'm 6ft5 so no....not child size, but I don't feel like carrying what is basically a tablet in my pocket.  I've seen the Note phones and had one at work until I switched to the GS5.. my personal phone is the GS4. Don't need a phone bigger than that.

November 3rd seems to be the date everyone is pointing to for Lollipop. Flagship Nexus models first and other brands to follow.

I have to reply to this too as I am not the size of a child either (6' 2"). There are several reasons not to want a phone that big, not the least of which being the reason Stephenk pointed out. For me, though, it's the fact that I would be forced to use two hands for everything on the opposite side of the hand holding the phone. I have pretty long fingers and 5" is just perfect enough for me to be able to sweep across the screen and use anything with one hand. I don't want to carry around a brick in my pockets either, but the main reason for me is that I would be restricted to using two hands.

The real endgame for me though is the fact that Google didn't keep their same Nexus price point. The whole reason I went Nexus in the first place was because I needed a cheap unlocked phone. In the future, I'll probably stick with the new Motorola models coming out that are still ~$300 or less.

Yeah, I am aware of sensors and so far there is no concrete information on the sensor for Turbo.  My thinking is since it's = to or better than the Nexus 6 in most categories and both are Moto devices, it will likely use the same sensor.  Of course it could be one of those times they don't. Either way I'm going to wait to see and feel both and read the first few reviews.  Then I'll make my choice.

Same here. I like it! I'm glad they finally added the ability to silence notifications at night. That was one of the biggest things I didn't like about 4.4.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is that they removed the quick mute function when you hold down the power button.

Battery life is halved lol, some much worse for others. It's a known issue and fixed but they are yet to roll out the update. I have come across some more issues and reported them on the Android bug forum.

Noob questions: Are Android OS' not available for separate purchase like a Windows or MacOS?  Is it entirely up to OEM discretion to update outdated OS'?

In a way, maybe I can answer my own questions due to Android updates being free thus the cost to distribute whole licences must be accounted for through controlled release, but Windows updates are also free but MS sells licensed copies of the OS itself.

It seems like the only way to get Android 5.0 is to buy a expensive device with it as opposed to a cheap Android 2.3 phone and install Android 5.0 on it.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

It is up to the OEM to provide any Android over the air (OTA) updates to the O/S.

Alternatively if you prefer native RAW Android code you can go to XDA developers or CyanogenMod websites to see if they have an update you can use but your phone would need to be rooted.

Adding to that, I've had great success with Kingo Android Root (for Windows).  I don't need to root my Nexus 5 but I wanted to root my older phone so I could unlock it to give to a client on another provider.  It worked no problem on a client's Samsung Galaxy S3 and my older Samsung Galaxy Ace II x.  It requires a few reboots (about three) during the process but it works like a charm.
