It's here

http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-2988-KR

The question is, is the difference really worth $130 over ACX 2.0 SC.
1291/1393Mhz vs 1266/1367Mhz (mine boost to 1418Mhz on stock settings)

And still no 980 FTW,

I thought the Boost Clock was supposed to be 1405MHz?
The 1291/1393MHz values are Exactly the same as a Zotac ZT-90203-10P!

Yea I would've expected more than 25Mhz faster than the ACX SC, that's kinda weak. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the 980 FTW in the product stack now either, is it going to be Classified speeds on a reference PCB or split the difference and be 13Mhz faster than ACX SC?

Guys the stock clock of a video card dont matter. Its the overclock potential that matters. Comparing stock clocks of cards is pointless.

Product cannibalization at its finest.  Fortunately the consumer appears to be benefiting from the lower end cards assuming the OC nicely. Also, it is fortunate that competitor pricing will help keep the EVGA GTX 980 and GTX 980 SC in check.

But yes as noted above, until OCs and benching can be done who knows the potential of the Classified.  Likely it will blow the stock cards out of the water and kill my theory.  We shall see.

Kind of makes me want to wait a little while longer before deciding to go with the Classified and just see how it compares in Testing/Benching, etc...

Let me see.........980 Classified Ti?.....980 Kingpin Edition?......Titan X?......Dual Chip 990?......

The Classified (04G-P4-2988-KR) is $130 more than the SC ACX 2.0 (04G-P4-2983-KR).  And you get 26MHz in clock speed.  Is that all?  Am I overlooking something?

You might get some cool stickers too.  I am sure it will use the remaining 2 power phases that were left unusued on the reference card.  Maybe some other sweet components and of course dual/triple BIOS.

Worth it in my opinion?  Nope get 2 GTX 980s for a bit more.

WOW that classified price is crazy high guess I will be skipping the classy this series. I just don't understand why its priced so high oh well guess I am going with the 980sc. I don't see any value in paying a $130 premium but that just my opinion. Its strange they decided to rise it so high in the past it has always been $20 to $40 more....

Re: ETA for 980 Classified? 2014/10/23 18:30:24 (permalink)
Well that explains the difference between the reference and ACX cooler prices, but the differences between the classified and others is still pretty high

Classified: $700
Reference SC: $630
Reference: $600
ACX SC: $570
ACX: $550

so going from the base model that is $550 to the classified is a total of $150
I'm seeing $20-30 for stock -> factory OC, $50 for "stock ACX" -> reference cooler, and $150 for all that classified offers
If we assign a value of $50 to the OC then we have $100 left over for the cooler and whatever other changes it has (2 8-pins instead of 2-6 pins, triple bios, and uh... red cooler instead of a blue one?)'

It should at least have something more than that imo.

I'm really starting to wonder if non-reference anything is worth it, I have a GTX 780 ti classified kingpin, and it can't stay stable even at it's factory set OC (I'm RMAing it finally) maybe it's just bad luck, but I'm not seeing any real reason to spend extra, a lot of extra, or a TON or extra for a design that looks different but uh, doesn't do much.

It kind of explains it... Why are the MSI, ASUS, PNY, etc. reference cards (reference cooler) still $30-50 cheaper?

Roughly 27% price increase over the Reference card...

Does it perform 27% better? I guess benchmarks and time will tell.

Because they (MSI, ASUS, PNY, etc) are buying the reference PCB's directly from NVIDIA. EVGA is no longer buying them directly from NVIDIA, EVGA is now manufacturing their own reference cards based off of NVIDIA reference PCB design. Does this mean better quality? Nobody knows.

Not to hate on EVGA but I waited a few extra days in hopes of the Classified being reasonably priced and this happens. I'm content with my ACX 2.0 however. I just could've had the card by now if I hadn't waited.

WOW is correct. That is pricey. For $699 you think it even has a backplate as none of the other 980's due so far beyond the reference model?

I was so excited by this but after seeing the US price, lowered boost clock and the lack of a Backplate,
I ended up grabbing another 780Ti Classy instead.
I'm going to hold out for a 980Ti classy if released or next gen.

Not to mention the availability is going to be limited what with the number actually available
and the mad rush by people trying to get their hands on one.
It is getting worse with every release, would think manufacturers would learn from previous years,
they need to increase the number of cards available on release.
The EVGA 980's available from sellers here in Australia sold out within 2-3 days .. just crazy.

Amen to this.  I was going to pick up two Classifieds.  But ... after seeing the VERY LITTLE difference in specs and the VERY BIG difference in price between the ACX/Reference cards and the Classified cards, I don't think I will.  I might be willing to pay the extra $130-$150 for a card that is substantially superior (e.g., includes a backplate, has increased clocked speeds beyond that of 26MHz).

Maybe I'll just sit around and wait to see how all this shakes out and not buy anything.  I've already gone to ASUS for motherboards.  Maybe it's time to go to them for graphics cards, too.

For the price they are asking, I would have to see some SIGNIFICANT overclocking headroom before I would even consider buying it.

I Still Haven't received any reply from the Guys at Kingpincooling.com about what firmware to use on the EVBot for the Classified and I haven't seen any modded Bios's come out at Overclock.net either, So I'm really not going to be in much of a rush to buy anything until I Know.
