I got my cards in yesterday, both work great! Both coolesr seem to be the ACX 1.0, as it has only 3 heat pipes (2 larger ones and 1 smaller one). However, I plan on liquid cooling these with a Kraken G10 bracket and Corsair H55.
More importantly, both GTX 970's came with backplates!
ACX 2.0 doesn't have anything to do with heatpipes, it is the fan. If you have 11 fan blades, it is ACX 2.0

Disappointed that the simple acx 980 superclocked (the basic oc model) isn't even offered. I'll be sure to caution people on forums in the future if they put too much stock in the "step up program" in the future. It's not promised, I do understand, but clearly some OC'd models are offered and some are not. So it is far more of a roll the dice than anything understood and assured. I'll need to just make sure other forums understand this in the future when they consider what to buy and from whom.
Not offering the uber cards? I get it. Not offering the basic OC cards? That's a choice. And given that such cards are the bread and butter of what many folks come to EVGA to get, people will want to know that those cards are not at all likely to be a part of any step up program. Oh well. At least people will know.

Usually it is only the reference cards that are issued for step-up. Actually if you look at the step-up page term & conditions, it is stated clearly: "EVGA will only release reference versions of its products, NVIDIA reference spec and clock, to the Step-Up program." Superclocked is an overclocked version. IF non-reference cards are offered, consider it a bonus, not an entitlement. The step-up page also states: "Products known to have a limited availability will not be made available to the Step-Up program. (Limited availability determined by EVGA.)" I find it amusing that you'd warn people against a program that no other retailer offers though...

Which card are you stepping up to? I don't know the exact date but the FTW became available for step up in the latter portion of September. If you are shooting for the reference model, maybe that is why someone has entered the process quicker. I know I submitted for step up to the FTW on Oct, 1st, and hope I am coming soon in line

I finally received the Step 2 of 4 notification email for invoice verification. In My Product page, I see an option to pay for the shipping, am I supposed to pay for that now or wait for the email after the Invoice is approved? Took me 2 weeks from queue completion to recieving my cards. Stepped up from 6gb 780s to acx 2.0 980s. Overlocks out of the box at stock voltage was 1550 core and 4001 memory. I wish you all the same luck ;).

I'm starting to think about keeping my SSC.
I just received my backplate, the coil whine is mostly gone, card is silent and runs anything at 1080p...
Plus I won't have to send my card and wait for the FTW to come home...what to do, what to do... :P
