Gonna be upgrading soon and i was hoping i could get your input on a little build i put together, or if you have any suggestions! I plan on liquid cooling my cpu and gpu, but not to sure on how to or where i can find some great parts to do so. I'm looking into getting a reservoir with acrylic tubing! Also with the titan z being dropped down to only 1500$ thats also really tempting, and if i water cooled that id be saving money opposed to the 2 water blocks. I'm torn between the 2, what do you guys think?

Don't know if that 256 SSD is going to be enough. If I were you I'd get a cheaper case and use the money from that to get a HDD along with the SSD.

What are you using the computer for? If it's for gaming, you would be far better off getting a couple of 980 cards in SLI than a Titan Z, and saving yourself a few hundred in the process.. those Titans are better suited for heavy computing and rendering... but if that is your need, go for it if you have the money to burn.

I have a 500GB Samsung 840 Evo in my laptop (mSATA though) - really good little SSD. Their 'Magician' software really cranks the SSD up. Get the 500GB one.

FrozenCPU.com is a great website for liquid cooling gear. Ideally compression fittings, not barbs.

I likes XSPC radiators, particularly the RX models.. bit better cooling than many of the standard rads.

If you're going to get Corsair Dominators, might as well pay the extra bit and get the best - Corsair Dominator Platinums.. 1866 or 2133MHz.

Have a look at my old 480 hydro rig [link] for some of the parts used, or my current rig [link] although it's just a closed loop Corsair job on the CPU.

Yeah its only gonna be used for gaming so i guess there really is no point in the titan z, the 12gb of vram is really what had me goin for it. I would go for the 980's but price to performance to the 970s i don't think the 500$ difference justify's the 15-20% performance increase. blah the titan z was a bad idea, i feel stupid now :P.

I'll probably just go for the 256gb one just because the 500gb is 380$ while the 256gb is only 190$ i just dont feel like i'd be getting any sort of a deal goin bigger and if i ever needed to i could just end up buying 2 of the 256gb for the same price if i end up needing that much.

Thanks for the link, im definitely gonna check that website out.

Your right on the corsair platinum's i totally overlooked that. for 20$ more i could go for the 2133mhz and there is also another one for 2400mhz for only 10$ more, hell yeh.

Nice rig, that case is beastly and looks very clean.

Everything looks solid, except the memory.

Re: What do you think about this build? 2014/10/22 07:42:05 (permalink)
My opinion :  if you plan on gaming

1) need faster memory - go like 2400 speed ( 2133 at the least )
2) need a bigger HDD for most of your stuff to go on - keep the SSD for the OS and some main used programs only
3) consider a single powerful  980 SC videocard  ( if gaming )  most games still have SLI issues

You could possibly save a little coin, there is a used 900D for sale in our marketplace. But you need to have 50 posts to be able to use it/see it. Nice build ,I hope you have fun putting it together.

Yea overall that looks like a solid parts list. I will also say that g skill does make memory that is equal to corsair and tends to be a little bit cheaper. As far as having 12gigs of ram, thats much more then most people will ever use for gaming, even at 4k. Right now I'm still using my 1080 monitors and I can that 4gig is enough for pretty much any game out there(at 1080), with one or two exceptions.

Good point - the Corsair works fine with my EVGA board, but I also have an ASUS Rampage IV Formula mb (now in wife's desktop), and I do recall having some problems trying to use XMP on that board until I switched to some Patriot Viper 3 ram (the red ones), and that's been running without a hiccup since.

Yeah, i'm pretty comfortable with just 8GB. But those new Samsung 850's can use up to 4GB of your RAM for buffering.
