I stepped up the 19th just got an email the 20th of this month they told me it was now in step 2. Took another day to get them to verify payment. So don't worry it will be soon!

I just hit a month of no feedback today. Has anyone stepping up to a 980 in the US received any updates yet?

I already have my 980 ACX 2.0 installed. It was delivered back on the 17th. But I switched from the reference cooler to the ACX version as soon as it was listed on September 20th. From their first contact that I'd hit the front of the step up line (Step 2) to having a card in my hand was 10 days so that's probably a reasonable estimate for most folks unless you opt for faster shipping.

Has anyone in line for a reference model heard anything?

I entered my step up and received confirmation at 11:04AM CST on the 19th and have heard nothing so far for the reference model.

I'm like 95% sure that the ACX 2.0 GTX 980 didn't show up on Step Up until September 22nd. I have been looking at EVGA.com every day since the step up started waiting to hear word. I stepped up to a reference GTX 980, kept checking my queue every day because I didn't realize how long this process actually took (first time) and then when I noticed the GTX 980 ACX 2.0, I cancelled my reference step up and jumped on the ACX 2.0 and that was on September 22nd around noon Eastern time.

That is good to hear you got your card, that makes me think I may get to start my step up process sometime in the next couple weeks...hopefully...seriously.

So you bought a 980 reference and stepped up to a 980 acx 2.0? Even at that date it seems you got it much quicker than other folks around here... Did you get your card from evga directly or somewhere else?

Re: Has a single person received any updates on their step-up? 2014/10/24 06:59:52 (permalink)
Honestly, I think some of us made the mistake of thinking that EVGA has their act together. I have a feeling that they just didn't plan for this properly. There were a lot of people like me that had GTX 680's and hit the two year upgrade mark and the GTX 980 wasn't out yet so we went and bought the best GTX 780 we could at the time, but then a couple months later the GTX 980 got released and we all jumped on the Step Up program because we know the GTX 980 is gonna be better for the price.

Sadly, judging from various forums I have read online and EVGA's forums, it seems like people's orders are being fulfilled OUT of order. Which means they are either trying to pick and choose them or they are hoping that those people spread the word to make it look like the program is working better than it actually is, but the bottom line is you still have people that submitted requests on September 19th (37 days ago) that have not been fulfilled yet let alone even heard word from EVGA.

I think EVGA needs to make some kind of courtesy announcement or goodwill comment and let people know it's okay

I've been in line since 9/19 for a reference 980 and have heard no updates other than my request was submitted.

It's all about which cards are the hardest to come by, certain 980's are less popular so they get step-up ability quickly. If you picked one of the more popular ones I could definitely see it take a while.

I wanted to clarify a few things in this thread.

If you entered the step up queue for the 970 ACX 1 card, you were automatically upgraded to the 970 ACX 2.0 model when we put that on the step up list instead.

If you entered the step up queue for the 980 Reference card, you will still be receiving that card as supplies allow. If you wish to change to the ACX 2.0 card as your replacement, please contact customer service and we can put in a request to have you changed over.

but what if we wanted the reference card, and it wasn't an option?

Re: the 980 step-up queues - I've been in the step-up for a reference 980 for A Long Time.  Are both the 980 reference *and* the 980 ACX? queues experiencing delay?  Or would switching from the reference queue to the ACX? queue result in shorter wait time?  Anyone?

Dont switch its all based on availability and popularity of which on you are trying to get, honestly chances are slim that if you switch youll somehow get it sooner because even if the product becomes available for step-up youll be last in line for the que. Just doesnt make sense

980's are continuously sold out everywhere the demand is really high only reason why. Once demands drops everyone will probably get them at once. I find it sucky that you couldn't send your card in now and have them check it so right when your step up is available they charge you then send you the new card.

It's been about a month since release right?  So when do you think supply will meet demand, when do you think realistically that we'll be seeing our cards and when this queue will really start moving?  Cause it seems to be at a standstill.  Middle of Nov?  December?  Damnnn

I dont think your looking at months or anything like that, have to look at it from there perspective this is just a nicety they have for the customer. There overall goal is to gain new customers and make present customers happy. It may take a little while but really no other company offers what there willing to do!

Yes, I understand that, one of the reasons why I choose EVGA.
But answer me - when do you think we'll get cards?  I'm among one of the first to step up, as I stepped up when reference was available.
Can't imagine the wait for the people who stepped up a few days later or even weeks later.

I stepped up to the 970's and the demand for those were considerably less I requested the step-up  minutes after it was available and I literally mean 2-3 minutes. I receive my cards tomorrow, so it took a little over a month for the 970's which were much more available. I would say a couple more weeks and the line will really start moving but that's just a guess.

I am not all that sad that I have not gotten my email yet (I really want my card and all but I understand) all of the 9 series cards of all of the card makers are sold out it seems.  I have looked at new egg, NCIX, tiger direct(there i didn't actually see any 9 series cards at all), and even the evga web site they all seem to be sold out so that tells me it is probably a supply issue on the chip side (ie it is nvidia that is the hold up not evga)

You are right. Not even Nvidia's fault, necessarily. Also, if you check the shipping information for TMSC (Nvidia's wafer/ silicon factory outsource) there have been no shipments regarding the GM204 core, which tells me they are either producing and refining new silicon right now (other GPUS for other companies like AMD or Apple) or currently producing more GM204. Either way, there will still be a little bit longer of a wait before anything will really pick up pace. I wouldn't expect a massive influx of stock to become available for the next few weeks.

If anyone is curious, just type "nvidia" into a search que on Zauba and you'll see most of the traffic involves their Quadro lineup. You can regularly check the place to get an idea of when will arrive what if you are diligent.

I, too, am among the ranks of those waiting for these cards to come in (Stepping up to 2 980 ACX 2.0's from the 780 6 GB's), but no worries, the wait will noit last forever and we will all eventually get our cards. If not, in a worse case scenario, the 8 GB versions are just around the corner, and so are the (alleged) 20 nm/16 nm core variants due out in the first six months of next year (crossing fingers, but multiple sources point to this). All will be well and good, but maybe not so much so for your wallet, in the coming weeks.
