Hello! quick question, i was wondering if an i5 4670k would bottleneck 2 970's in sli?

Also what kind of performance increase (if any) would i get if i was to get a i7 4790k and put that in sli with a pair of 970's

I already have an i5 4670k so not upgrading the cpu would be a plus! also dont both cpu's only support 16pci lanes anyways? i guess it wouldnt be any different would it? i just want some confirmation before hand.

One more question. I currently have 2x4gbs ripjaws ram @ 1600mhz but if i ever wanted to upgrade to 4x4gb's could i do this with my current cpu without any bottlenecks? do the amount ram sticks you have affect performance at all? i would normally go with 2x8gb but already have 2x4gb.

No, it will not be a "bottlebeck"

A tiny bit higher than what you have, unless you use anything that actually utilizes hyperthreading.

The Ram sticks should be paired if possible. Supposedly, if you mix a batch, by buying 2 more sticks of Ram, they may not play nice together. The 2x8 would probably be the better way to go, if you have to upgrade. If you aren't using something that uses more Ram that what you currently own, then don't worry about it.

I would stick with what you have personally, unless you are going to enthusiast platform. Beyond that, there is much better things to spend the money on.

Okay, thanks for the reply. When you say a mix batch are you referring to 2 different brands of ram or 2 of the same brand? Because i would be getting the exact brand type of ram that i currently have. Are you saying its possible to have 2x4 2x4 of the same type of ram not be compatible with each other?

it means sticks with different latencies, freq, and voltage.

Even thre same company, same specs, same everything, it could still not play well together.  It is always better to get batches that are binned together.

For instance, if you need to RMA a single stick of ram, and say you have 8x4gb (32 gb total) from a single batch, they will request that you send all 8 sticks back so they can replace them all and make sure the ones you have work together appropriately.

I wouldn't recommend getting another matched pair to run 4x4. I tried that with 2 G.Skill Sniper 8Gb kits, exact same models, and I would get occasional blue screens. Good ram, but they didn't play well with other so I sold off the pairs and got 2x8. Could blame the Asrock board I had at the time but I knew the risk of running 2 kits that weren't box paired.

This helps verify the reasoning :-)   Matching doesn't mean they will work.
