Hi
My Son has had this Toshiba laptop for a number of years and I want to know if there is any way to speed it up.
My first thought is no due to its age and older technologies.

Would a cheap SSD help at all.

SSD's make everything better but it's time to buy new IMO. Don't need to spend much to get a decent Windows 8.1 laptop these days. You could always try an SSD first and then return/reuse it if you're still not happy with the good ol' Toshiba.
