Hi. I've recently acquired a gt 520 card and I'm facing some problems with it.
After some hours of constant use, some artifacts starts appearing everywhere.

It happens everywhere, browser, windows, games, etc...
In some games there's also polygon spikes.

This is intermitent and sometimes the problem starts occurring only some minutes after boot.

This card is not OC'd. The temps when the problem occour is at 45/50% so it's not overheating.

Can someone shed some light on what's happening?

Thanks. I've sent a e-mail to the retailer (I live in Brazil so it's better to do it than send it to EVGA itself).

But, can it be something else?
The intermittent nature of the problem makes it hard to test.
I'm afraid that they'll send the same card back cuz they did not found any problems.
RMA in Brazil can suck so bad sometimes... :(

Solder cracking has probably occured somewhere on the PCB, which happens sometimes..Remove the HSF assembly and the VGA port and flat ribbon cable and bake it like this..If solder cracking is the problem, baking should reflow any crack(s) that might exist and that will fix it..If you bake it, do it with the GPU side up..Hope for the best..Good luck.

The one other component that you can look into is the power supply.  If you had it for a fair number of years, any large fluctuations it could have developed over time can affect the graphics card.  The easiest and more sure way of testing this is using a spare or borrowing a power supply to test with, although testing the card in another system works too.  If the artifacts go away, you've found the culprit.

I wouldn't recommend baking the card as that will void the warranty.  If your place of purchase can't help you and you've verified that it is the card then we can help.

My PSU is new too (2 months). It's a EVGA 430w.
Right now I don't have access to other PSU (my old one is a generic with only 120w).
But if the PSU is the culprit, would not it have some BSODs, reboots and stuff like that?

Right now the only problem is the artifacting and the only game that crashed because of it was COD 2.
I've noted that in some games, like FEAR, if I change to DX8 shader the artifacts do go away.
But like I said the problem is intermittent and sometimes it works 3 days without a problem.

The card is just 2 months old so I will wait for the retailer response before trying something crazy.
If they find a problem I was thinking in getting a refund, and use it to get a GT 740 SC. Can the 430w handle it?

    Hello piau9000

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this matter has caused. Please let us know if you would like to have your card replaced with EVGA in order to support you with this request.

Shipping charges for RMA'ing a cheap card like a GT 520 from some locations (like Brazil) can cost as much, nearly as much, or maybe even more than the card itself and take a month or so, making RMA a poor choice cost effectively..I think you'll probably find this to be true and that's why I said what I said, Piau..In such cases, it would be more cost effective to throw a bad card in the garbage and buy another/better card, bake it and hope for the best or get EVGA to pay 100% of the shipping charges (and I can't quite see that happening)..Hopefully the retailer there will work with you on it..A GT 740 is a 64W (5.3A @ 12V) card, the EVGA 430W PSU with a single 34A +12V rail should be more than good amperage-wise..You can use this PSU calculator to estimate your system wattage requirement..You should always list your system/hardware specs.

    Yep.
Last time I checked, the shipping fee from where I live to USA is something like 40 USD.
I've already sent the card to the retailer. Now I just have to wait.

    Just a quick question.
Now that I'm using the on-board, the PSU is quite cold. When I touch it sides it's cold like steel.
Before, with the card, it was somewhat hot. Not too hot that it can hurt your hand but hot enough to make your hand sweat.
    Is it normal?

I'd say so..Your system isn't under quite so much of a load..Don't worry about it.
