I still don't understand why Intel doesn't adopt i9-xxxx for the enthusiast platform. It would distinguish a completely different line, and make it sit apart from the i3, i5, and i7 platforms. (sorry for the random tangent)

I am interested to see what the broadwell will be able to accomplish compared to the haswell, and not surprised they are going to delay strictly due to the fact that the competition isn't there.

Yes Scarlet-Tech But I would really like to seem them bring back the pins on the CPU and the old socket type on the MB.
The i9-xxxx could be like 2"x"2 is size. I then would have to but all new water blocks to the CPU but I never killed a MB with a Female CPU Socket before. Smaller is better for laptops but Desktop motherboards would have no problem at all. i7 is old now.
On a side note this would give me over a year to save up the money to go with a new rig in 2016.

One can completely redact the Projected Date aspect of the Intel Roadmap because there's no competition.
At least Intel so far cares about it's reputation and isn't producing junk for a high price. Again, so far.

Information seems a little loose... "six or eight cores", I'd think it would be extremely unlikely for Intel to only launch hexcore chips when the eXtreme edition is up to eight. If Broadwell-X was expected to launch Q4'15 then delaying it till Q1'16 isn't much of a delay anyway. I'll be more curious to see if the date starts to slip further.

As for performance increase, it's just the same core so it'll be 0-5% unless they up the caches. I'm more hoping it will translate into cheaper 8-core chips but will have to see...

The article States Broadwell-E meaning the replacement to Haswell-E, also meaning it should replace the hexcore because it will be the extreme (hence the -E).

That would also have Haswell-E out for approximately 18 months depending on the release if they push it to late Q1, meaning everyone will be ready for a new -E cpu to be released.

That's only one more reason to upgrade on X99 for New Year.

Makes me happy to have gotten my X99, and i believe those cpus also work on the same 2011 v3 socket, so easy upgrade path for me later.

Yes if Intel don't change something.
They promise compatibility between 14nm Broadwell E and 2011-3 and X99 chipset.
I will upgrade about 20-25 December.
I wait to see price of Crucial Balistix Elite 4x4GB kit.
I would like to know what manufacturer of DDR4 use for their memory models. Hynix, Samsung, Micron or something else.
That would be nice to some list show up.

22 months separated Sandy Bridge-E and Ivy Bridge-E, while 17 months separated Gulftown and Bloomfield.
Considering the absence of AMD in the upper end and only competing with their own unlocked mainstream, I say Broadwell-E is on schedule for 2016, my guess June.

As for the idea of more than 8-cores, not until Cannonlake-E.

    Presler flagship was a 2-core
    Conroe flagship was a 2-core
    ___________________________
    Kentsfield flagship was a 4-core
    Yorkfield flagship was a 4-core
    Bloomfield flagship was a 4-core
    ___________________________
    Gultown flagship was a 6-core
    Sandy Bridge-E flagship was a 6-core
    Ivy Bridge-E flagship was a 6-core
    ___________________________
    Haswell-E flagship is an 8-core
Broadwell-E flagship will be an 8-core
Skylake-E flagship will be another 8-core
    ___________________________
Cannonlake-E flagship will have more than 8-cores.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

How much pass between Gulftown and Bloomfield, 17months?
    I can't remember well i7-970 is 6 cores Gulftown 32nm and i7-975 is 4 cores Bloomfield 45nm.
