Hi, im about to buy a GTX470, to update the old GTS250 of one of my old computers, my question is: Do you think that my evga 500B bronze PSU can handle this card under load?

My evga 500W Bronze specified about  "40AMP" and 480w on the +12v rail: (  )

and the requirements of the GTX470 are a PSU of "550W" with a minimum of "38AMP" on the +12v rail: ( )

so, what do you think? should i be worried about those 50W difference on the reqs?

It'll probably work, I powered an oc'ed A8-3870K (150-175w+) and a oc'ed HD 7950 on a cheap rosewill 500w (480W actually) non-80+ psu just fine.

The power requirement specs are overcompensating for bad psu's, that 500B is a good unit.

What are the specs of the rest of your system? The 500w PSU should work fine with the GTX 470.

Alienware Area-51M Laptop: Intel Core i9-9900K @ 5.3Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 2080
Alienware Aurora R4 Desktop: Intel Core i9 10980XE | nVidia Titan V
Alienware M18xR2 Laptop: Intel Core i7 3920XM @ 4.7Ghz | nVidia Quadro RTX 3000
Alienware X14 Laptop: Intel Core i7 12700H | nVidia GeForce RTX 3060

The rest of the system is:
Core 2 Duo e8400
4 GB RAM (2x2GB)
Nvidia evga gtx470
evga 500B PSU
1 DVD Burner
1 Card Reader (sd, mmc, ms, etc.)
2x 80mm fans

its an old computer but i want to do an update to a: AMD FX6300, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD and GTX660. Should i Replace the PSU with this update? or should i keep it since the GTX 660 is significantly more energy-efficient (296w vs 385w) than the gtx470.

It always makes me a little nervous when people have a PSU below a 750w. It may work, but if it doesn't, I would go with at least a 750w PSU like I mentioned. It's currently half price at Newegg with instant discount, and rebate card:

there is no reason to need more than a quality 500-550 watt PSU for any single graphic card set up:

A 4770K + Titan Black average 350-400 watts under system load, a 470 and C2D won't be any worse. A 500W PSU will be sufficient unless you plan to overclock everything, in which case you will very quickly burn though that spare headroom. For safety reasons I'd suggest a PSU upgrade if you do plan to OC the old (or future planned) system.

thank you guys.

I'm not sure if I can ask another question in the same thread, but it's something quick, "Is the Core2Duo e8400 bottlenecking the GTX470?" because im not getting the results i expected.

Probably, my uncle has a similar set up (pentium e2200 & 560 se) and it bottlenecks quite bad in bf3 multiplayer & any equivalently demanding games (like 45% gpu usage at most).

I really think you should be fine as long as you're not overclocking any of the other components.

As for your other question the Core 2 Duo is most certainly bottle necking that card. Try using EVGA precision and closely monitor your GPU usage. If the GPU usage is low then you'll know that your CPU is holding you back.
