I have the LG G3 and that is one great phone. The Samsung S5 really didn't impress me. I don't like the software UI in the HTC M8

I would pick the G3. x1440 IPS 5.5" screen and quad core 2.5ghz processor (snap dragon 800), large battery, dual flash 13mp cam. That thing is a beast.

Either the S5 or the G3, both are great phones. The G3 has a higher resolution IPS screen where the S5 has an awesome Super AMOLED screen. Both have fast processors, removable battery, and micro SD card slot. One thing the S5 has though is that it is waterproof which is nice.

Get whatever phone you like. Don't let any of our opinions influence you on what YOU want. But if you care to know what I think, I say get a Nexus 5. Best android phone out there. Great price, features, stock android experience without all that bloatware from manufactures like Samsung and HTC, and you will be the first one to get updates from Google instead of waiting for Samsung or HTC to convert the OS to their UI.

You can now swim in a pool for hours with your Samsung Galaxy S5, that's innovative to me. Someone even put it in a washer machine for an hour and it still worked brand new. Wish my S4 could do that.

I'd suggest the Galaxy S5 if you went with something right now, seems to be the most well rounded phone. Going from a Galaxy S4 to a Note 3, I saw huge changes in charging with the upgraded Samsung charger that utilizes USB 3.0. But the new iPhone 6 and Note 4 should be out next month... that's what i'd wait for if I went with a newer phone that had the QHD display. The LG G3 skimped in a few places... They've been using a 13MP camera for 3 generations now... Charging is still the same. The screen uses up a lot of battery life and doesn't really get very bright. The US version uses a Snapdragon 801 with a Adreno 330. Which is pretty much what is in a Note 3, but it's supporting a much higher resolution. The Note 4 is expected on September 3rd and the hardware is expected to be a Snapdragon 805 with a Adreno 420 for the CPU/GPU... That's going to be a much better device to shoot for if you can wait about a month.

But you're not supposed to. The water certification does not endorse that. There is a video of the G3 surviving water just fine, but I'm not sure how or if I'd ever risk it like that. I have a G3, and coming from a Nexus 5, the best thing is hands down the camera. It focuses amazingly quick and has amazing detail and color. The selfie camera is also pretty dang good (in good lighting). The Nexus 5 is faster, but part of the blame goes to the 1440p display and LG's UI. Don't get me wrong, the G3 is quick, but it's not as smooth. It also can have thermal throttle issues when playing games and such, so that may be something to consider (I don't game on my phone, so no qualms there). I hate AMOLED colors, but the G3 screen is great. It is a bit saturated, but just enough to make it look good (in my eyes). I'd love to see it with the SD 805 for the beefier GPU, but it looks like only the Koreans may see that model (and if not, I'll be mad that early adopters got screwed). The G3 has some awesome features (such as knocking on the screen to turn it on or off with a finger) and some other things. I did do some things out of the box such as freeze useless bloat, hibernate some apps, and switch to ART to make it faster - and it helped and gave it some more juice to last through the day. The resolution is sharp, but not as big of a jump as 720p to 1080p was from my Nexus 4 to 5. You will notice it most when viewing something small (such as photo collages on a news feed) because the detail will be a lot more visible. On the flip side, imperfections and poor low res photos look like crap (as they should anyway). The T-Mobile version has an unlocked bootloader, so it has proper root and recovery right now (and is the only one), just so you know. The phone is also just beautiful. I hate the Galaxy series because they all look the same. The G3 stands out, and rightfully so. I wasn't sure I'd jump ship from the Nexus line to a more expensive device, but the G3 filled in the gaps where some things were left to be desired.

It's the providers who decide when to update and how much crap is on the phone, not the manufacturer. Verizon put a heap of bloatware on, and are usually last to update, regardless of what phone you have with them. I have an HTC One, great phone, but I'm with Verizon which is a little expensive but their coverage is unmatched around NYC so I stay with them. New laws 'allow' us to unlock our phones, so maybe I can get rid of some of their crap now. The HTC camera is very good in low-light conditions in particular, and the front facing stereo sound is also unmatched. I really like their HTC Sense GUI and I love blinkfeed (strangely enough it was a feature that made me reluctant to buy the HTC One at first, but now I wouldn't go without it). Also it just looks good. Only negatives - no removable battery, and can't install additional microSD.. but then again they supply a large amount of cloud storage anyway. I'm referring mostly to my HTC One.. the M8 I presume improves on it (plus how can you say no to a phone named "mate", lol).

rjohnson11 Nexus 5. Terrible battery life and terrible camera
I haven't noticed terrible battery life on mine. I live stream all day over a bluetooth headset while its in my pocket and still have 35-40% after I leave work. And the camera isn't terrible. It's probably not as good as the ones in the flagship phones, but it works well as a cell phone camera. Nereus It's the providers who decide when to update and how much crap is on the phone, not the manufacturer. Verizon put a heap of bloatware on, and are usually last to update, regardless of what phone you have with them. It's actually a combination of both. The manufacturer has to get their hands on it first to tweak it for their own UI and apps (i.e. Samsung has to tweak TouchWiz and their apps, like Kies, their app store, Hub, etc). Once they get it all running right, they pass it off to the service provider who tweaks it to work with their own apps and modifications (Verizon apps, splash screen, blah blah). So when you buy a subsidized phone, and Android gets an update, you have to wait for both the manufacturer and the service provider to get their hands on it before you ever see that update. The Nexus line is stock Android, so as soon as Google releases a new Android version to the public, you get it on your Nexus devices.

Thanks for that. Certainly a good reason to go for a Nexus. My Mrs loves her Nexus 7 (although it's a tablet not a phone).

I ended up dumping my iPhone 4s because I am sick of how slow it gets every time apple pushes an update. So I ended up with the G3 with the LG circle case/cover. What a crazy phone! I have my FLAC and WAV audio files on it and they are even tagged by the phone as "HiFi" audio files. Camera is nuts, slow motion (high speed) cam is nuts, dual LED flash is nuts, and this 1440 IPS display doesn't get old. Battery life is crazy awesome too. I like how easy it was to sync automatic backup to my GoogleDrive and One Drive. I was also able to add a 128gb micro SD card, putting my phone at around 150gb for storage.
This is all very crazy for long time iPhone user. Not my first android but it is way better then what it was years ago.

I have Verizon and I wanted the G3 as well, but at least on the one I tried, the call quality as not good at all. I also thought that the screen looked a bit washed out, but maybe there's a way to tweak it. I ended up with the s5. The main disadvantage that I see is that the camera isn't good in low light in situations where the flash can't help. Other than that, I am happy with it.

Thug21 I have Verizon and I wanted the G3 as well, but at least on the one I tried, the call quality as not good at all. I also thought that the screen looked a bit washed out, but maybe there's a way to tweak it. I ended up with the s5. The main disadvantage that I see is that the camera isn't good in low light in situations where the flash can't help. Other than that, I am happy with it.
My call quality is the same as my iPhone 4s and my wife's S4 or 3. The screen is the best on the market. It may have looked washed out because its 1440p and most apps are still 1080p. I saw a side by side night comparison of the S5 and G3, they looked the same. However G3 takes 4K photos and 4K video.

That's cool. how is the battery life? So hard to tell from reviews. I read one that said it took 5-6 seconds to take a picture with the s5 after waking it, which sure ain't true. More like 2...
