How do you like it so far? From what I've seen, and I'm not running it yet, it looks like what Win 8 should have been...reminds me of Vista and Win 7, sadly.

Apparently I did. It seems that Microsoft went to a different school than I did. I could have sworn that 9 came after 8 but I guess that I am wrong about that.

It's stable and I like the use of very small tiles within the start menu. I also like the split screen button and the home folder button

The Task veiw feature is kinda cool Basicly Virtual desktops . but remember if you are an insider for it you get the latest features to test as you use it and it gets released over windows update . the tiles are just like in windows 8.1 size selection and such . also you can resize the start menu but anyways more features are to come

As usual M$ tries to hide normal settings but I'll continue to test it. Not a fan of the search icon on the taskbar and I'm one that likes to auto-hide the taskbar but it seems very slow and and won't come up at all from the lower left side. Ended up disabling auto-hide. It is very stable so far though. I wouldn't upgrade anything yet to this very early version. There will be bugs. Dual boot or run in a VM.

Did they move the "Rename" and "Delete" when you right click on items? Seriously.. who put these 2 right next to each other? yodap Not a fan of the search icon on the taskbar and I'm one that likes to auto-hide the taskbar but it seems very slow and and won't come up at all from the lower left side. At least you still have yours on the bottom. I have mine on the left side (windows 7). Reason 1: When you right click on explorer, your pinned items are located on top, most recent are on the bottom (if you have this enabled). You have to go to the top of the popup to get to the item pinned first. If the more important item is pinned towards the bottom, you still have to go over 2 items to get there unless most recent is enabled and you have to go over more pined files. Reason 2: If the taskbar is located on the top of the screen and you don't use auto hide, open windows can potentially be under the taskbar and you cannot get to the file menu. Top would be more ideal for pinned items if the taskbar didn't cover the top of most windowed items. Reason 3: For me, it is easier to get to the upper right than lower left without lifting my wrist off of the desk or the mouse moving underneath my hand (I use fingers more than palm), but with high dpi and acceleration, most people won't even notice a difference if there is any. Could just be in my head. I saw that the power button is near the top, this will help me with my taskbar on the left.

Is it more like Windows 7 or 8? What percentages would you give to both in Windows 10?

Tough to give percentages. It's more like 8 because it has ugly colors for window borders. But wait....... It's more like 7 because it boots to the desktop without 3rd party software or extra clicks or swipes. But wait...... It's more like 8 because they force you to have things on the taskbar you don't want and is less configurable. But wait................ It's more like ipad.

Very cool. I downloaded it yesterday and I am going to hopefully load it up on a z97 test machine today. How about drivers RJ? Windows 8.1 drivers the way to go on this one?

how are they hiding classic settings or normal settings what is it your looking for. and as for your otehr post Windows 10 only does desktop mode on KB/M systems so you will only get a KB /M interfaceses and such no Touch based and you can unpin stuff from the start menu or taskbar . also if you are insider then keep runing it and send feedback because they are gonna update this build as time goes onn they explained everything in ther talk about windows 10 Tuesday morning . as for the UI colores it changes depending on your background and is perfectly fine . Remeber this is a technicle Preview a very very early build. and while yes ther will be Bugs that is why they havea Feedback app so you can summit feedback on a near real-time basis and at some point they will push updates and new features to you look in the windows update section in windows 10 and select get new previews and such area

I tried it for a couple days using VirtualBox, but I didn't feel it did it justice. Now I installed it on a separate SSD and so far so good. I have a long way to go yet as far as testing things out. I spent most of the day installing software & tweaking settings. But for a tech preview, it seems pretty well put together already. The only thing I found so far in the way of driver issue's is, there aren't any Intel NIC drivers that allow for teaming that I could find, even though the drivers I have installed do work otherwise. I've been installing everything so far as if I have Win8.1.

No as Windows XP mode was windows 7 only unless ya talking about Windows XP layer mode for compatibility then yes . but most of your apps should just work

Are you running enterprise, or a lesser version? I am curious to see what if anything they either took away for gave back to group policy and engineers for Pro machines. As for windows xp mode, sure its there, all it was on 7 was microsoft virtual PC, you will have to user hyper v on the new machines. Toss in an xp disk, load it up and go to town.

Actually RJ there was a programatic reason for making this Windows 10. There is old code within the repositories for differing version of Java as well as support code imbedded inside the other applications which prohibited it from using the Windows 9 version number. A coder went into the repositories and did a search for anything relating to windows 9 and found these entries. Makes you wonder why Microsoft intentionally allowed that in the past to hamper their numbering scheme.
