Its the next step after a working prototype. My first priority is the block, performance and fitment. After that, the asthetics come.

understood performance over cosmetics is always first. I was just curious, wife just likes the looks of the IO cover, which I agree hide a lot of the ugly ports

I have 2 choices, either make a slot for the lip of the cover, or alter the block completely to fit.  I tend to think the slot will be easier.

agreed. People can always modify their IO plate to compensate for the block.

Thats also another approach.  I cant just assume everyone can cut/hack/grind etc though, so I will do my best to make it fit.

I may bang out the prototype this week.  I had to knock out some heavy copper cutting.  I finally finished that, but still have some Delrin to machine.  I have been working on some of the CAM work on and off this time, so I HOPE to have something to report this week.

Any idea on how much it would cost? I am still waiting for you to work on the air cooled CPU block as well

Re: Z97 Stinger waterblock. Yes, it will happen. 2014/08/18 14:13:30 (permalink)
Cost depends on 3 things.  The materials used, the machining time, and the finishing.

The materials seem to be relatively inexpensive since this is 3 tiny blocks, bolted to a plastic saddle plate (or sandwich).  The finishing will be a pain since its a total of 5 pieces being machined, which involves various processes like machining different sides, changing bits, rotating parts etc.

In order to do batches I think I have to make all the CPU & chipset blocks at the same time, since they are the same thickness of material, and the vreg has to be done on its own since that is 3 times thicker copper.

Hey Nate, just checking in to see how the full block is coming along.  I do have a question, would you be willing to do a personally engraving on the top?  Look forward to seeing the prototype.

sadly I am just waiting for my machine to free up.  This is the reason I am building a second machine.  I can only cut batches of one block at a time.  i would love to do 2 batches, it would make things go SO much faster.

Actually getting closer to start this.  Picked up a slab of copper for a fixture plate yesterday.  Will be working on some CAM this weekend I hope.

Naaaaaate. I'm baaaaaaack. Hahaha. First off, take it from someone who has purchased Nate's stuff, it's top notch. Secondly, I am working on a small Hadron build with full liquid cooling in an attempt to cram it all into a Hadron Air and I'm using the Stinger. So I'll be watching this thread and potentially interested. Not sure of my rad surface area being enough though so I can't really place an order until I get further into the build.

Aside from that, it's looking awesome Nate, keep up the great work. You are a hell of a part of the EVGA community here.

Patiently waiting to throw money at your face nateman. Just ordered a z97 stinger core3d for this. Which reminds me will your block be compatable with the z97 stinger wifi?? Just so those who buy that board know or not.

Looming at them it does look like it will fit, really wish evga would send you some blueprunts so you could measure compatability with similiar boards.

I hope to have this started this week.  Fixture plate will be first on the to-do list after a thorough cleaning  & tramming

Welcome to the forums!!

So... this is the first step in everything:

A cleaned up, trammed machine.  Time to make the fixture plate.
