It seems to be a few thread here about instability of the eVGA GTX980 Superclock.
I too am suffering the same issue in an hour old card.
Setting a custom fan profile too keep the card cool and the card overclocks too high for the stock voltages.
I ran Metro Last Light Benchmark only to have it crash with in 60 seconds of starting it.
So I increased the voltages to 115% with PrecisionX, ran the benchmark again and it passed fine.

It's clear the card isn't providing enough power to sustain the factory overclock.
To me it seems like it was overclocked with thermal throttling in mind, never to reach that high on stock air.
 
So do we RMA our cards, or do eVGA update the card's BIOS.

It quite clear there is an issue there and not faulty hardware, raising the TDP resulted in a stable card.
Funny thing is its only Metro Last Light that causing the issue so far, but I am going through EVERYTHING.

It's really strange that some SC model can't run stably at 1366 when gaming.   It seems that most of the 980 GPUs can reach 1500+ when benchmarking (though it doesn't mean stable in all games)

Yeah, but they have to increase the TDP.
I was playing with a GTX970, had to increase the TDP to 112% and go a massive overclock out of it.
 
The face that if you underclock the card its stable, if you increase the power limit to 115% it's stable.
This doesn't lead me to believe its faulty hardware, it points to the overclock on the card isn't stable.
 
It can be easily fixed with a bios update.

I thought I would bring it to their attention, they have been more than helpful in the past.
The fact that there has been a few other complaining about the same thing lead to me thing there could be an issue in some cards.
But so far I've only come across 1 game/benchmark that has caused the issue has me a little stumped now too.
 
I will keep the thread updated if I come across others.

Update:
If you disable advance PhysX the Metro Redux benchmark will pass fine, with it on it will crash unless you set the power limit to 115%.

Just a quick update:
 
After running everything that I know that will stress a card to the max, nothing has caused that same driver crash.
I even saw Firestrike push the card to 106% TDP with it still set to the defaults, seems it could be a Metro Redux issue, came across a thread on the Steam forums with people having the same issues.

Feeling really stupid now, because prior to seeing the crash this card had impressed me completely, much cooler than the Asus reference I had (no eVGA's in stock), that throttled under base clocks
So thinking I had a second flaky card was a bit stressing.

Still find it strange manually increasing the TDP allows the Metro LL Redux benchmark to complete with Advance PhysX on though..
This is something I didn't see on the Asus card.

I would like to chime in, and say metro redux crashes my 780 TI as well when i have the advanced physx setting enabled. No matter what i ever tried, that game makes my nvidia driver do one of those crashed and recovered errors. A ton of people have this issue, its the game sadly. I doubt it is your GPU itself.

What first lead me to believe it was the card is I upped the Power limit to 115% and it didn't crash.
But it seems after thrashing my GTX980 tonight for hours without a single crash that it could be the game too.
There's something causing the card to draw more power and the driver isn't allowing to do, I don't know.
 
Like everyone I hate to admit I'm wrong, but in this case as strange as it is, I think I am wrong and would like to say sorry to eVGA.
 
It just mimic's the same sort of crash that happens when you don't have enough volts to an overclocked GPU. (Saw a lot of them yesterday when maxing out the GTX970 G1 Gaming which as it stands is ranked 18th in the world in 3dmark 11..lol)
 
When I can get my hands on a EK block for the GTX980 I'll give that a good go too..lol..
