I currently have Norton Internet security, My subscription run out in 24 days.
I don't want to renew it, it would be nice to use a free one that works just as well with out paying the price.
Has anyone tried or using they could recommend.

Avast free. It's the best antivirus/internet security in general imo. AVG is also pretty good.

I don't know if it's still the case (so I'm subscribing for an update) but a few years ago when my ESET subscription was about to lapse a number of people here were recommending MS Security Essentials (Windows Defender in 8.x) paired with the free version of Malwarebytes anytime someone asked which AV to go with and that's what I've been using since as well.

Avast, AVG and MS Security Essentials are all good options. I also agree with pairing with Malwarebytes.

You can try out Immunet Antivirus Software for free It won't slow down your PC and will be compatible with your existing antivirus too.

I went through the same thing a couple years ago....I had Norton 360 though.... but I just went to avg free for antivirus which has been great and malwarebytes free with the windows firewall. the windows firewall is not a bad wall. I also went and downloaded Nortons separate identity safe vault which is also free now. good thing too cause I have a lot of passwords/login ids and I use huge 20 character jumbles for them all. not fun to try to remember.

I used to just use MS security essentials since it was much improved since Win7 and it's less software to install but it keep missing viruses according to latest reviews so I"ve started using bit defender.
Good thing with bit defender other than it's probably the best free AV is that it's hardly noticeable and doesn't seem to slow down system performance at all.
Seems Malwarebytes is pretty good too.

NIS is no more any ways. While still supported. Its EOL. The new Norton Security though is fantastic. Completely revamped from NIS. I had about 2 months left on my sub from NIS. I downloaded the 30 day trial for NS. Then I had them switch my remaining days from NIS to NS giving me 3 months. I will certainly be renewing when its up. It is also the lightest version Symantec has ever put out. Even using some features from the enterprise versions in the past. A first in the consumer version.

I guess I give the new version of NIS a try, the older ones have always worked well. It would be great if the new ones is lighter.
