Upgrading from 680 trisli FTW and trying to decide tri sli 970s or sli 980s? The FTW of each will be around mid to end OCT availability. Pricing is involved as trying stay within reason. I usually game in 2D surround as have 3 asus 144hz vg248qe. What do you think best route as I want others feedback. I've Googled and read many reviews already and want others opinions. Thanks for feedback and my specs are below:

I'd suggest you overclock that processor into the GHz range otherwise it would be a server bottleneck to whatever GPU configuration you decide on.

I would think the PCI-E 2.0 in Tri SLI would be an issue but maybe not, the CPU speed should be ok @ 4.6Ghz.
If its running 8x8x4 I would not even bother going Tri SLI you would see a big enough gain with just going two way.

That board uses a PLX chip so it's actually 8x/16x/8x pcie 2.0 (with SB) according to the spec sheet.

Wait until the 980 Ti (or whatever they call it) comes out if you can wait that long imo.

Thanks for replies. I am personally leaning towards sli 2 980s FTW cards. Looking at overall performance and looks like 1 980 is about 2 680s sli performance with 1 card. Sli 2 980s will be significantly boost from current cards. I'm also saving to upg mobo and cpu after cards as well just not right yet. If they do 980TI I'm concerned price point for that card too and have you heard if they are doing that version at all?

The 980 ti will probably be ~$700 but it's said to be 50% faster than the titan black. It may release later this year or early 2015. (These are just rumors so take them with a grain of salt.)
