There is a relative lack of information surrounding this development but since the folks over at Sweclockers personally attended this event, it is certainly not a rumor.

isn't freesynch a vesa standard not a amd standard. still goiing to stick to gsync for ulmb and lower latency.

VESA sets the DP standard. It's up to VESA to decide to adopt Freesync and they did awhile back starting in DP 1.2a a few months ago. To me this is really posing news out of context. This Freesync is part of the DP 1.2a and DP 1.3 VESA port specification. All Nvidia is doing is properly implementing the port requirements for DP 1.3. While it is an AMD tech initiative, Nvidia is merely properly implementing the most current DP spec. Either way, it means it'll be on both major platforms. That makes it more appealing for manufacturers to put it into displays. I played around with both Freesync and G-Sync demos at CES 2014. Personally, I'd prefer the tax free Freesync over paying extra for G-Sync. Both require DP.

I think he was leaning more towards FreeSync...

FreeSync is more universally accepted, so I go with what everyone can use. When in doubt, do not monetarily reward proprietary specifications. Going Nvidia just because it's Nvidia is irrational.
