If you have to choose between the step-up and the Swift I love my Swift :), best thing ever if you enjoy motion clarity and don't mind the sacrifices it comes with a TN panel. Your 780 would still be adequate at this resolution but the VRAM may be an issue since you enjoy Skyrim modded and eventually GTAV (with mods I imagine) at 1440p. The extra 1 GB may help out if you can do both eventually, or the step-up first because the Swift's availability isn't the best here.
 
The reference cooler may not be an issue depending on your area, in my room with average ambients around 29C that cooler may not hold out so well, but it is a 165W rated card based on Maxwell architecture, and in my case it was trying to keep a Titan under control. My experience with the 750ti on the other hand, which is a Maxwell based card, could handle it's rated boost at 1342 MHz with a fan speed of 60% @ 60C in folding@home. I was astounded. The case airflow wasn't anything to be proud of either.
 
I have no idea about the regards to the time schedule but shipping with 2 day air from UPS was $12, $8 for ground here in the US (CA). This is my first step-up ever so I'm both excited and anxious during this process but I'm hoping I can switch the 970 to the 980 in my step-up. If it works out I want to see how well a reference 980 does against a 780ti Classy. No prob by the way :D. Check more reviews though and go on some other forums with 980 clubs and see what actual users say. Best to get a good idea before choosing.

I live in Canada. Will I get hit at the border with duty plus taxes if I step up from a 770 to a 970?

I have 30 days left on my 780 Ti SC step-up. Does EVGA normally put Classified or SC versions on the step up program? Wondering if I should wait or just do the step up now.

They don't add custom cards to the step-up, only reference as far as I know. No increased speeds, just whatever was the stock rated given by Nvidia. You do have 30 days to give you some time to think on it more, the 780ti isn't a slouch but the 980 does have this allure that is hard to resist. New cards I guess lol..

But still no 980 :(

Try cleaning your browser cookies and cache. 970 is there
 
Maybe you cant choose it because of the card you have, i dunno.

I'm madly refreshing the Step-Up page on my phone at work...

Even though I've got lots of time to step up, I just want to get in the queue for peace of mind.

I'm guessing that there's not enough stock of the 980 at the moment, or it would be up already?

They should still put it up as its a queue system, I dont mind if it takes a month but I would like the peace of mind that I can be confirmed in my 90 days.

I still have 8 days on my evga 780 ti sc acx.. i can can see the 970 acx under step-up tab, but no 980 of any variant.

I'm hoping i can can step up to the 980 sc acx.. if not i guess i'll just wait until next generation.

Well I would like to to know if this is an error or if an upgrade from the 780 ti to the 980 won't be possible.

I was able to do 2 reference ones. At the time I did the step-up for my 780TI's, only the reference ones were available. 

I just heard back from the EU Support team via email. Apparently they've got no reliable date yet, but are hoping to know by the end of this week/start of next week.

I just hope that's an overestimate. :)

At least we know what you don't need to worry if your time is running out. Just talk to EU Support and they'll sort you out.

Are you guys still in queue? I started my stepup for both my cards on Friday, and I havent been put into queue yet. 

Would you step up from 780 Classified acx to 970? I guess the obvious answer is "no, better upgrade to 980", but it's good to know for sure.

Anyway, do I have to pay in 7 days from the day I process my step up or I need EVGA reply before paying? And how do I pay?

You will receive all the prompts and information once your step-up has actually been approved and processed. You also pay online...as if you were buying from them directly...
