Hello there,

I bought an EVGA GTX 970 superclocked card (model 04G-P4-0974-KR) and I use a dual monitor setup, one DVI-D and the other DVI-I. In both windows and linux the latest drivers work well and I can get mutltiple monitors working with no problems.

The problem is on startup for BIOS and both the GRUB and Win 7 launchers and loading splash screens the card will only output to the older DVI-I monitor which is my secondary monitor which is out of the way.

Is this meant to happen? It is only a minor annoyance which has left me to disconnect my DVI-I monitor and the DVI-D works fine in single monitor mode for BIOS, loading screens and everything else.

Any thoughts from anybody else as I didn't have this problem from my older ATI card.

Thanks

What happens if you switch the ports?

The monitor that is used by default for BIOS display is just determined by priority out of the available ports. I believe the general priority is VGA>DVI-I>DVI-D>HDMI>Displayport. These are settings in the firmware of the card, and not something that will be changed by making adjustments to the windows settings, as without being loaded into windows, the card has no way of knowing which is your primary display. Try switching the ports and it should show on the one you want.

I have the same issue with similar setup but on a 670. No way around it really. Gotta lean forward a little bit to read my the text while in bios.

Thank you for your replies and the explanation.
I was used to my old card just outputting to all the monitors mirror fashion, it is odd though that the older analogue monitor takes priority over the newer digital one.
I am just running a single monitor for now and I'll see if I can upgrade to a 2nd digital monitor later on.

I have a similar problem with my GTX 970s (04G-P4-1970-KR) and my LG 49UB8500 4K TV; the BIOS and Windows boot screens do not appear, I only get picture when Windows actually starts. Seems to be related to the HDMI 2.0 setting on my TV "HDMI UHD Deep Color". If I disable it, I lose 4:4:4 color at 4K, but if I enable it, I lose my BIOS screen

edit: between uninstalling and reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers and updating the TV firmware this seems to have resolved itself
