Anyone else seeing this problem? If I load my browser after boot, my screen flashes, and then at the bottom right corner of my screen I get an Nvidia driver error, that my card stopped responding. I wanna say a while back on my old Z77 mobo I had this issue from time to time. It seem to be contingent on the driver I was using. Also I wanna say someone once told me to increase the BCLK a little and that should fix?

I did go in the BIOS and set my PCI-E slots 1 and 4 to Gen 2.0. As I had read some folks had issues with the Auto function and there cards being 2.0. Didn't seem to help this issue.

Any thoughts?

If you're running graphics driver 340.52 try 340.72.

I tried 344.11 and still no luck, should I Specifically try 340.72?

Nope. You should perform a clean boot of windows just to rule out any software conflicts that you may have.

When I got the X99 mobo, I did a clean re-install of windows 7. It had this issue right out of the gate. Everything is factory, nothing Oc'd. I am thinking hardware or firmware problem. I have never updated the firmware of my 580GTX classifieds. I guess I never needed too, they always have worked wonderfully. I will probably just sit tight, and see what 1.07 bios has to offer.

I have been trying to solve this problem, I can not figure out a solution. Nvidia drivers crash when they want too. It only seems to happen in 2D mode. Gaming seems to work fine. Sometimes It crashes hard enough I have to reboot. Sometimes it recovers... Not sure whats up. Even viewer just shows the kernel file stopped running. So I am out of ideas. I'd like to just upgrade to 980 Classifieds but I can't afford it right now, and well these 580 classifies(3GB), running at 1080P run fine still. I can play BF4 with mostly maxed out settings. I want to wait on the upgrades until I am ready for 4K gaming. Waiting for monitors to come down in price and for it to become more main stream before I take the plunge...

I would try downclocking the cards -105 from default clocks on both the core and memory. I would also try increasing the cpu vcore and dram voltage a bit to see if it clears up the crashes.

Ok, everything is running stock. My profile says gcards are running at 900mhz, but running at 855mhz(stock) as of the last 2 weeks. CPU and dram are set to auto, clock speeds all stock, with XMP profile on the RAM.
I will try Gcards at 750Mhz, and add some more voltage to the CPU and dram and report back. Thanks for the advice.

No problem. Running in XMP mode may be the problem. I would set the ram up manually.

Re: Video Drivers stop responding 2014/10/28 15:20:21 (permalink)
I will try that as well. Right now I bumped up the voltages. I haven't down clock the cards yet, as they should have no issues running stock speeds. I want to try one thing at a time here, so I can identify the problem... CPU Vcore stock was 0.977 according to the bios, currently running 1.002. RAM was 1.223 Currently running at 1.258 in XMP. If this doesn't work I will try removing XMP profile and running manually. As I am typing this, the driver just crashed, so I will remove the XMP profile and try this manually.

Is there a short explanation as to why RAM settings and voltages would affect my Gcards?

The XMP profile can sometimes set the voltage/timings/advanced timings up incorrectly causing the system to become unstable under certain conditions. It's always best to setup the ram manually to avoid these issues.

So ram is set manually now. I just set the first few fields. 15-15-15-35. I left the rest on "auto" as I have no idea were to find all the timings information. I guess I could try the manufactures website. Would they have a full timing table? Including basic, second and third timings? I left CPU and dimm voltages increased as well. The drivers crash randomly, but it seems opening up a browser is a sure bet for them to crash. I wanted to increase the voltage to the GCards, but its a pain in the butt for the 580 classifieds. I believe only the EVGA E-LEET utility will allow for this. One card sits at 1131mv and the other at 1118mv. Both were purchased at the same time. This information comes from the EVGA precision utility. Even after setting the timings manually the Nvidia drivers crashed again, when opening a browser to post this message.

Only fields that need to be manually set are the ones you have already set, command rate should also be set to 2T instead of 1T. Time to try downclocking the cards.

Running cards at 749Mhz. My classifieds were purchased 3 years ago tomorrow. SO I am guessing if down clocking them below factory settings fixes the problem I will have to setup an RMA? Next question is, how long are those cards supported? I don't think I bought any extended warranties.

Yes, you will need to setup an RMA if downclocking fixes the issue. 580's with a part number ending with -AR have lifetime warranty as long as you registered the cards with EVGA within the first 30 days of purchase.

I did register them within 30 days. The part number for both is: 03G-P3-1588-AR. So looks like I am covered. It's been 15 minutes or so, since I rebooted with the cards running at 749Mhz(-105 offset). So far so good no crashes yet. Obviously I need to test this for a few days to ensure this is the issue. I suppose the next step would be running each card individually to see which one is under performing. Hopefully EVGA still has some 580GTX 3GB classifieds left. It would be a real bummer if they sent me an upgrade to a 680 or something, I couldn't SLI with my working 580...

EVGA will send you two 680's since you can't SLI a 580 with a 680. When submitting a ticket for RMA you must check that you have a SLI setup to let them know you need two 680's instead of just one.

Good to know. I will see how the system runs with under clocked GPU's for a few days. I will also drop the CPU and dimm voltage as well. Then the only change will have been the down clock aside from removing the XMP profile and going to Manuel settings. Thank you for your help. It's much appreciated.

Cards have been running without a crash for the last 3.5 hours now... I have had 10+ browser windows open doing research for school, and ran Cinebench a few times, along with its OPENGL bench. I will continue this for another day or two. If it's still solid I will open an RMA. So far, it sounds like we found the issue.

Cards have been running without a crash for the last 3.5 hours now... I have had 10+ browser windows open doing research for school, and ran Cinebench a few times, along with its OPENGL bench. I will continue this for another day or two. If it's still sold I will open an RMA. So far, it sounds like we found the issue.

    Hello corndogg18

Under clocking the card is never necessary to run normally and if this step needs to be taken it sounds like the card would need to be replaced. I would highly recommend on testing each card one by one in order to see if the issue is following one 580 only.

Inventory changes daily in our RMA warehouse so you might get another 580 Classified if available.

OK, so some interesting stuff to report. I removed my second graphics card from slot 4 and ran Gcard 1 in slot 1. No crashes. So I decide to run Gcard 2 in slot 1 all by itself. GCard never crashes but I get no sound. So I check cables, uninstall sound drivers, and then re install sound drivers. Still nothing. Grab a second set of speakers plug them in, and nothing. Go into bios, make sure nothing that has to do with the onboard sound is being disabled(I actually found no settings to much with for onboard sound). So I am like well sound worked when Gcard 1 was in slot 1. I put that Gcard 1 back into slot 1 and I have sound again. Original config was GCard 1 in slot 1, and Gcard 2 in slot 4. I have the classified so I have the onboard creative sound blaster. I haven't a clue what to think about this one. All I can think of, is Gcard 2 has issues, and is causing some IRQ conflicts or something with the onboard sound? I ran the Gcards at factory speeds (855mhz) while testing. I am thinking even though that Gcard 2 doesn't crash running by itself, something is not right... Any thoughts?

    Try this...

#1 Create a system restore point.

    #2 Download & Install CCleaner & Driver Sweeper 3.2.0.

#3 Remove all NVIDIA software from add/remove programs.

#4 Remove all Creative software from add/remove programs.

#5 Remove Precision X/Afterburner, make sure to select "no" to saving profiles when asked.

    #6 Reboot into safe mode.

#7 Run driver sweeper 3.2.0, check mark Creative - Sound, NVIDIA - Display & NVIDIA - PhysX, select Analyse button, if a list of entries pop up select the Clean button, when asked to reboot select Cancel. Do the scan again to make sure all entries are removed/deleted.

#8  Run ccleaner, select the registry tab, select scan for issues button, select fix selected issues button, when asked to backup the registry select "no" (we made a restore point earlier, we don't need to worry about backing up the registry entries.), select fix all selected issues button. Do the scan again to make sure all entries are removed/deleted.

    #9 Shutdown PC.

#10 Remove all GPU's and put Gcard 2 back into slot #1.

    #11 Boot PC.

    #12 Install sound drivers.

    #13 Reboot PC.

#14 If sound is working install GPU drivers. Make sure to do a clean install...
    1. Download & save 344.48 driver to your desktop.
    2. Double click on 344.48-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql.exe located on your desktop & run the extractor.
    3. Select custom advanced install, under custom installation options uncheck all options but graphics driver & physx system software, if you are using audio over HDMI please select the HD Audio driver, if you have a 3D capable monitor and would like to use 3D at some point select the 3D Vision driver also, check mark perform clean install, then click next to install the driver, reboot when asked.
    4. Re-install Precision X/Afterburner if you want.
    #15 Report back with results.

I can give that a try and see what happens. But the cards are identical. I don't see why one card works with sound and why one doesn't other than that one card is faulty? I am not using HDMI sound out. Is it possible the Nvidia drivers have profiled the 2 Gcard ID's and perhaps it knows one from the other?

It's possible. Doing the above should clear it up if the nvidia drivers are doing so.

OK, So I did that, got the sound working with GCard 2 in slot one only. GCard 1 I had in slot 1 for the last 2 days. It did eventually crash (3 times over like 12 hours of use total), but not near as frequently as when both cards are in SLI mode. So now I am going to run GCard 2 in Slot 1 for a day or 2 and see if it crashes.
