My purchase price for the 780ti is higher than the price of the gtx980 by about $150.  How does step-up work in this case?

Edit: Nevermind.  Just went through the step up process.  I'll just be paying for shipping.  Not bad.  Now to get some hard numbers comparing the two.

Why does it still say "set up not aloud" for me? I bought a 780ti and registered it within my 14 days but when I go to my product page it says its not aloud.

Do you have the invoice uploaded? If you can't figure it out I would give EVGA a call and tell them your situation, they will probably guide you, or tell you what is up.

I will either find a way, or make one.

I think I'm going to have to, I do have an invoice uploaded and it says how many days left I have to do my step up but it won't let me actually start the process.

That is odd. I This is my first step-up ever so I can't help you further as what it can be. Give them a call, they'll help you out I'm sure! If they accept RMA's at 2am anything is possible with EVGA lol.

I will either find a way, or make one.

yes still definitely worth stepping up. I have the same card you do. The 980 is worth it and its more efficient, better performance, and less power consumption.

I hope that EVGA will enable EU customers for Step UP soon.
I dont want to feel like second class customer as my Step up will expire in 10 days.

Could anyone confirm that it's only the reference model that is available in the step-up? I have about 60 days left on my SC ACX 780 TI and am interested in the 980 SC ACX 2.0 version (or the classified version that is coming in October), but really don't want to go through the hassle of selling it on Ebay, Amazon etc. then buying it separately.

If the step-up program is supposed to prevent people postponing their purchase to get the next best thing, I would hope that all models of the upgrade are included. :/

I live in the UK and will still need to buy extended warranty (I didn't register in 14 days), but won't bother if the 980 that I want isn't available.

My interpretation of this is that it should be available in the EU stepup program but isn't there yet so give EVGA time to resolve this

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

My step up runs out today and I assume the 970 is coming tomorrow to the EU, is there anything I can do about it as this has really dissapointed me or am I just left here with my current card?:(

Clearly if you own something like an EVGA 780 Ti SC ACX there is absolutely no point in upgrading to a standard 980.

if possible - stepping up to a 980 SC ACX 2.0 WILL be worth it. This is exactly what it`d like to do, but i`m not sure the terms allow it.

Reference 980 is only about 5% better than a standard 780 Ti, but not at all better than the top tier EVGA 780 Ti variants.

The differnce in performance between a refernce cooler and ACX is not much in fact I doubt there is any at all.
They may provide a cooler GPU temp and are quiter but given the way boost works, it's not going to give you a much greater performance delta as you speak.
The refernce coolers are excellent and come with a killer backplate, read reviews they are clocking 200mhz plus and that matter in performance. ACX also blow hot air in the chasis which frankly is more detrimental to internal components.
Maxwell architecture all overclock like crazy , so if your talking performance the classified will probably give you much greater performance but you pay for that.

I am aware of the issue. I run a pretty cool cabinet though- water cooling and 7 fans in an obsidian 900D. Though to be honest, what makes the card interesting is that it comes with the biggest factory OC of any of the options. That fairly high "SC" value combined with low temps on the card allows me to do a decent OC with overvolt on top of the factory "SC".

Would love to have the classified, but my step-up (on EVGA 780 Ti SC ACX) runs out in 9 days..:(

With the 2 GPUs i`m already running in SLI, there is little point in upgrading to basic 980. I will do it for the EVGA 980 SC ACX or better, but nothing else. Since i already own top-end cards the step-up would be cheap.

Do you guys think that it would be worth using Step-Up to go from a 780 Classified to the 980? I love the Classified design and oversized ACX cooler, so I'm hesitant to switch to the reference design for the 980.

Due to paying a tax-free price for my 780 Classy, an upgrade would cost me £70 (including shipping).

What resolution do you play at? You do gain a lot of things with the new Maxwell card, while using less power, having more vram, and also being faster @ stock speeds. Overclocking on the 980s seems to be ~1300 conservatively, but some are getting 1600 MHz or so even on air. I think it takes a clock speed of 1300 MHz or so, maybe more or slightly less, to match a stock 980 with your 780. These new cards are nice, but I have a 780ti Classy and I would only consider another Classy after this one, but sadly custom cards can't be step-up'd to. In your situation though it's tough, the price isn't much in all honesty and you would have gains in basically every front. I'm sure with EVGA you can buy the new ACX 2.0 cooler in the future, or if you have a waterloop EK has blocks out. The reference cooler isn't that bad, they did well on my Titan's and those are 250W rated cards while the 980 is 165W.

This is the model available for step-up, I want to say you'll also have this model available when the list changes for you folks in the EU.

I will either find a way, or make one.

I dont really care about the design, my problem with the reference cooler is that its so hard to clean the dust...

Also my 770 ACX gets to 81ºC under full load (my bedroom is hot), i wonder what temps i'd get with a 970 reference cooler...

Thanks very much for your reply, it's really appreciated.

I'm only gaming at 1920 x 1080 at 66Hz at the moment. I realise that even my current card could be considered overkill for such a monitor, but I will say this: some of the games I like to play already push by 780 to its limits at this resolution and refresh rate (e.g. War Thunder Ground Forces maxed out, MechWarrior Online with TXAA enabled, my heavily modded Skyrim), and I'm planning on modded GTA V, The Witcher 3 and Star Citizen in the future, to name a few.

I'm also considering upgrading to something like the ASUS ROG Swift in the near future, depending on my funds.

This Step-Up opportunity is a chance for me to get the new flagship at the start of the cycle for not a huge upgrade cost. The only worry I have with the reference cooler is that it'll lead to throttling under heavy load, especially with overclocking. As you say, however, hopefully the ACX 2.0 cooler will be sold separately like they did with the older ACX.

My 780 was partially funded as a birthday present, which is why I bought it so late into the cycle. Part of the reason I was happy to go for it was because of EVGA's Step-Up program.

Related question: including shipping, how long does it normally take EVGA (EU) to complete the whole Step-Up procedure? I need to know roughly how long I could be suffering with integrated graphics for!

Hmm now im wondering, do you guys think step-up 970 will be available with ACX cooler in europe ? I really hate that reference cooler, im not sure if i'd want to trade my 770 ACX for that...

This is the model available for step-up, I want to say you'll also have this model available when the list changes for you folks in the EU.

I`d say the 970 is not worth it. Top tier EVGA 980 would be worth it, but not a 970.

Remember the 780s and 780 Ti are already very very good and the 900 series is only a stop gap while waiting for the new 22nm standard..

I just noticed that the GTX 980 reference has been replaced by the ACX 2.0 version for the US Step-Up, according to this: EDIT: apparently the link is being auto-removed, but it's simply the EVGA.com Step Up terms and conditions page.

If the same applies to the EU, my decision is made!

I live in Canada. Will I get hit at the border with duty plus taxes if I step up from a 770 to a 970?

I have 30 days left on my 780 Ti SC step-up. Does EVGA normally put Classified or SC versions on the step up program? Wondering if I should wait or just do the step up now.
