My ultimate plan is to stick everything into a rack(s) in the basement. Then go from there to all my a/v equipment and computer desk. htpc, game consoles, media players and so on.

With hdbaset this is possible only using a single cat 5/6 cable. With the 2.0 hdbaset they now have usb, not 2.0 speed but better than 1.1.

Now if evga or someone else made a card that has hdbaset 2.0 in it, so instead of the hdmi/dvd/vga all there is is a rj45 connector.

I can see a few markets using this
work stations. plug the cat 5 into the back of the monitor add a few usb ports for keyboard and mouse and have a nice clean work station

home theatre pc this is what i am after stick it into the closet then run it to my tv.

one say soon I can see all media devices having hdbast. It is slowly comming

The only reason to do this would be to overcome distance limitations on current cable options.  If you are running less than 50 ft, HDMI/DP is fine.  Not to mention that this would cause the cost of the card to go up dramatically and you would need an HT Base T receiver on the other end because at current there are no displays with this integrated.

There are displays with HDBaseT, and more being added to the list.
