My head is spinning reading reviews and posts about 780ti vs 980 and still can't make a informed decision!!! I already have 1 X GTX780Ti K|NGP|N Edition (awesome card) this is not on the EU trade in yet. The GTX780Ti K|NGP|N Edition still costs more than a GTX 980 sc sooooo do I get another GTX780Ti K|NGP|N Edition or get two GTX 980 sc????? I have 1 monitor 2560 x 1440 maybe upgrading to 4K. Arguments about  memory bandwidths, higher clocks and new technologies are known to me. I also know at the moment with the present driver the performance difference is minor, power saving is better yes but this is not a real issue for me. Can anyone shed any new light on my self induced dilemma?

Clock for clock the 780ti is about 10% faster than the new 980 card.

In reality the 780ti/titan black is still the top performance card in Nvidias lineup

Well most of the reviews show a vanilla GTX 780ti lagging about 5 to 10 percent the vanilla GTX 980 in most tests. Not the other way around.

Your decision will be based on how much you wish to spend. If you want to buy another classified Kingpin that would definitely keep you gaming in SLI for some time to come. The GTX 980, should you buy two of them will also do very well in SLI with less power draw but I would think the performance of an SC GTX 980 versus a Kingpin is going to be close. The Kingpin would probably win most benchmarks.

Ummmm........no......a Vanilla 780ti is clocked at 875mhz............a vanilla 980 is clocked at 1126mhz..........250mhz higher.......25% higher clock roughly.

Run a 780ti at 1126mhz base and now the 780ti has a 10% or higher performance advantage.

Dude the only thing that you back is the hardware you have. Denial much? rjohnson11 is correct

OP defiantly go for the 980 - less power draw and heat. With driver updates and the new tech implemented. Worth it

I don't want to get off topic too much but just read the reviews from Tom's hardware for example and their testing puts the vanilla GTX 980 ahead of the 780ti vanilla in most benchmarks. In fact most testing I've read and I've been reading the reviews for the past 24 hours shows the GTX 980 outperforming the 780ti in most gaming. You might find some synthetic benchmarking that puts the 780ti ahead sometimes but the important thing for me is games.

Are you a foolish lemming? The 780ti......still outperforms the 980 when clocked the same. My vanilla 780tis never operate below 1200mhz in my main game rig.

I also ordered a gtx 980........for my mini m-itx build. It is a very power efficient card with great performance.........but its not as strong as the GK110 when it runs at the same clock speed. Going to have to wait another year for legit performance improvement.......sorry buddy. 😉

Again a vanilla 780ti runs at 875mhz base........a 980's base is 1126mhz.......250mhz higher.........run the benches at same clock speed for both cards and get back to me 😉

Look, every thread which mentions a 780ti you flock to, spouting out. In all honestly, I wish the mods would just ban you - and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that. Especially with your condescending and "know it all" attitude.

I love my 780tis, but I suggest the 980 after watching K|ngp|n overclock one to 2ghz, after working to get his own card to overclock to 2ghz... Why wouldn't you want that? Not to mention the cost savings from efficiency as well as lower heat.

    Just my pennies worth.

I got to disagree a bit and agree Ntrain96.  When the 980 is compared to a 780Ti GHz edition, it lags it by about 5%.  These clocks are similar.  Yes the wattage pull is more, but the performance is still there with a 780Ti GHz.  There is a very legitimate argument regarding the power consumption.  The performance per watt is much better in a 980 but the overclocking ability is reduced since it already is running at a high clock speed.  Whether I have or love one over the other, the reviews and comparisons out already have proven this through multiple sources.

Nothing personal, as there is no reason to lash out with saying that someone needs to be banned for their opinion when different than yours.

Thank you all, I have looked at billions YES billions of treads and reviews now and most are about stock 780ti vs stock 980. I still have 34 days for step up, and as you can see in other treads the EU has only the 970 for step up (at the moment). I was checking out Scan (probably the cheapest and best retailer in the UK) and the GTX780Ti K|NGP|N Edition went down from £644 to £599 yesterday. Today in the afternoon it was £517 so I got one. Good thing too as it is now £550 a couple of hours later. I now have time to check these cards out in SLI and check more posts/reviews of the GTX 980 in SLI and if there's a decent performance change I can still step up. As for the power draw........well its turning to winter so two OC GTX780Ti K|NGP|N Editions will keep the room warm lol.
