I got a call at work from my girlfriend saying I need to rush home quickly.  I get home.... someone had ran my 7 year old cat over.  My car is broken down.  I carried him 8 blocks 1.5 miles to the nearest vet clinic..... Needless to say he died in my arms.   I cannot find the person who ran him down only a description of the vehicle who didn't even bother to stop.  I never realized how much my cat meant to me til today.  No more greetings at the door or snuggling on my lap while I play some games.   Nothing will ever replace him.  RIP Fatty Cat you will be miss.  I cannot get the imagine out of my head of him laying on the vet table bleeding from his mouth. eyes glazed over and gasping for air I have never felt so helpless in all my life that cat meant the world to me.  Ive fallen on extremely hard times but I always had that cat to cheer me up and be my best friend.   Sorry I just need to vent because I feel its horrible how someone can just run over a family pet and think nothing of it.  Not even to stop and notify someone.   I feel horrible inside been bauling my eyes out for 7 hours now.   THank you everyone for listening.

Sorry man. Hang in there. I lost my cat after 18 years. It's tough. Never a day goes by that I do not think of him. You seem to care for things. Don't lose that. Enjoy the memories. I will not say it gets easier, just becomes more distant. Take care and I hope you begin to think of the good not the events of today.

so sorry to hear this we feel for your loss
And I know what you mean when you say  he meant a lot to you
Some times there a bigger bond between a owner and pet then a family member
and to have him for 7 years he is  part of the family
Billy had his cat from when he was a kitten and now he  10 years and the bond between billy and the cat is unreal
it like the cat is all most human
I hope you find the guy some day some times it a sad world we live in

Really sorry to hear that! I've had cats for almost 20 years & they can be the best friends. It may be very difficult but try not to re live the sad parts. I see no reason that cat's don't go to heaven...

Sounds like you have had some rough times... I definitely hope things take a turn for the better in your future!

As for the person that ran over the cat, as sad as it is, I do understand it.

There are SO MANY feral cats in North America that it could unfortunately be an all day job trying to find a cat's owner only to discover it was a feral cat with no owner......even I don't have that kind of time in my life.  There are over 70 million feral cats in the U.S.  It is sad that someone ran the cat over, but it doesn't mean the person was a bad person.

Get a kitten asap if it agrees with your present lifestyle.  ( I was always partial to Burmese and Calico ).  I've lost many cats in my life (mostly to vehicles running into them).

I've lost cats due to vehicle override.  Most humans are devastated hitting any animal, tame or wild.  It is the environment we live in to hit animals with our modern vehicles by coincident accidents.  Just saying, not excusing our psyche, when we actually hit a animal.  I doubt most ppl will hunt down the owner to explain the experience (usually traumatic to the driver).

    Catch 20-2
Many shelters will look at you as a (animal murder) if you do not dewclaw your cat and don't commit to keeping it indoors.  I've seen more torched souled cats in windows sills than any cat allowed to roam in/out doors.

I am sorry for your lost and totally experience grief every time I've had a cat/dog die.  A replacement pet has always cured me and my memories of past animals are the joy they bring to our personal experiences with them while alive.

^^ I think that's good advice. After I lost my first cat, I looked into getting another within a week. Not to really replace per say as cats have as different of personalities as people, but to stop the emptiness of not having a cat around. But, just as I was about to get one from a shelter, another cat literally found me - exactly a week after I'd lost mine.

Same here. All of it. Sadly shows how life can be at times, a tragedy.

Hang in there crushed! I can only imagine the suffering you are going through, but I bet your cat wouldn't want you to suffer like he unfortunately had to. We all go through points of helplessness, its a part of life sadly, but if he did die in your arms at least he had the feeling of love before he left. Cherish those good memories you had with your cat, I try to do the same for all the loved ones I've lost over the years, both animal and human.

I will either find a way, or make one.

Damn! I hope you feel better brotha. I know you will because time will help you heal. I too just recently had my cat that I loved so dearly die 3 months ago. I too was surprised on how much my cat meaned to me. I had my cat ever since I was a 13 year old boy in which she lived for 12 human years(I am 25 years old now). I know my cat did not die a very painful death of getting ran over in which I am deeply sorry for your cat. My cat died from her liver and kidneys going out. Basically she was too old. But brotha just think of the good times you had with your cat. That's what helped me healed. But there are times when I look at pics of her and do things that I involved her(like eating a can of tuna together) I still cry about it. So dont be scared on letting the water come out because that will only make it worse. I learned that the hard way by trying to "man up" but it did not help but make me aggressive. My uncle told me that it takes a true man to cry so go ahead and let it out brotha.  Anyways I can say for damn sure I gave my cat the best life I can possibly give her and I am sure you did too. I admit I did spoil her a lot which I am very happy of. So if you need some one to talk to you can PM me.

Some people are REAL (Deleted for foul language) when it comes to driving and avoiding animals. Im sorry to hear about someone doing that to your cat. I use to have ferrets but their lifespan is much shorter and I miss the crap out of those guys. I decided no more pets for awhile because of not wanting to deal with losing one over something I cannot control.

There is no proof the driver did anything wrong. Cats and traffic do not mix. As sad as it is, drivers have a lot to look out for without the additional burden if having to dodge our pets that happen to be playing Frogger RL addition on the street.

I remember when I was first beginning to drive, I took my moms Ford Focus and as I was coming home at night, A dog ran right in front of me and I didn't react fast enough, It was like a last minute thing, He just jumped out... I ran his ass over and just kept driving.

Not on purpose, But out of fear. I was scared crapless and what scared me more is that I lived in the next block, I put the car inside and was panicked all night... The next day I saw the dog with one of those cones on his head... It survived, It was a huge pitbull. Not sure why it was out in the streets... Turns out the owner of the dog was my moms friend.

It's not always about drivers avoiding animals, It's more of a pet owner problem. You guys should be able to keep your pet in your yard or inside of your house... Don't blame the driver... Same as a kid, If you're driving down the street like normal and out of no where a kid jumps out running after a ball or something, The driver is always blamed as not paying attention, But sometimes it happens in the last minute and no reaction time is given.

tl;dr take care of your damn kids / pets and it wouldn't happen.

@ Rush -- Yeah, but dogs and cats are not the same. Some cats you really can't keep inside, they will rip apart the house.

Someone I know have many pets, they find a feral cat and take it in from time to time. Pretty much all of them live outside. Sometimes really crappy things happen. They let the chickens roam around just like the cats do and it's pretty damn funny to watch a hen chasing a cat across a huge field. But sometimes they get into the dogs area and they do not survive.

As others have said to get another cat, I highly recommend it. Especially something like a kitten or if interested in a dog, a puppy. They take a lot more attention and will help you in the harder times. I still have troubles thinking about my dog when he passed a few years ago... Wishing I could of done something different. But I now have 2 dogs that are a little older than 1 year old and it's hard to think about anything else when i'm trying to keep up with them. Definitely not a replacement, but man... they sure helped the depression.

I am so sorry for your loss.  We lost three cats in a year and a half including our favorite who was 18months old.  Time will make it easier for you.  Some day you may be ready for another cat.  It won't be the same as the one you lost but it may love you just as much.  This is what happened with us.  Hang in there.

Some people just don't give a crap and will run over animals in the road. A friend would run over armadillos, stop and back up over them in his work truck.

My question is why are pets roaming the roads?

People are always saying how their pets are their baby, like their child....but then why let them go roam around in traffic?  I'm not always having to slam on my breaks and swerve to avoid babies and children on the road.....but cats and dogs is another story.  Pets and traffic do not mix....parent accordingly.

This reminds me... I was at my buddies house last week talking about this type of thing. He lives out in the country on about 15 acres. One of his neighbors had a peacock that would just roam around on the grass... It's feathers were HUGE and it was always cool to see... But one day someone drove off the road and into a yard just to run it over. It wasn't like they just kinda slid off the road... It was in the yard about 100 feet from the road with ruts showing them veer into the yard and then go back onto the road.

It's funny to think of in a cartoon sense... but in reality, those people are messed up in the head if they like to kill things like that.
