Well I "assume" that the gtx 980 will be on the step up program and I'm well within the time frame "if release date rumours are true" to step up to the gtx 980. The only issue I have is, is it worth it??

My current monitor set up is a single 1440p monitor so certain games e.g. bf4 and skyrim with a couple graphic mods can push that 3gb of vram threshold. So I was wondering do you think it's worth it to trade in my 780ti for the 980 when it comes out for the extra vram and similar performance to be that little bit more "future proof"?

I don't plan to upgrade anything in my system till pascal comes out so I'm probably gona SLI in the future.

Thoughts guys :)?

PS my 780ti rattles so I'm sending it back for RMA/step up anyway.

Based on performance specs. Nope. Based on power specs. Yep.

Agreed, 5% to 10% no more.  Just like the new Intel chips, some things are better and some things are not.  Seems we are in a period of limited advancement, at least for enthusiasts.  I think the days of major improvements in versions are gone, as the human mind cannot comprehend a flash and a flash that is 10% faster.  When folding or using complex calculations there will be a difference, but the improvement from Direct X12 may be more than the silicone wafers.

hmm under what circumstances would you recommend getting the 980 rather than keeping the 780ti?

I am tired of the new and better stuff just being 10% better than the last thing. It is like climbing a never ending ladder. I find Nvidia and Intel is rushing stuff just to put it out.

If you're looking to save power a 980 would be a great choice over 780ti.

I think i may go for the 980SLI and get a 1080p 144hz g sync monitor when they come out. at least then my bill won't go through the roof as i can sell some old parts to get a 2nd 980.

Nvidia and Intel hardly have any competition... Only reason amd is selling is because of bitcoin miners

TPU review is out. The 980 is faster than the 780Ti, about 10-15%, as predicted.

I have considered picking up a 3rd 780Ti EVGA of course.  But they are only going for $150 less used then their original retail price right now on ebay.  How long do you think those will go for in the next upcoming weeks?
