So Here is my rig.  It works great for gaming, but because the PSU doesn't like my GPU, and I want more airflow for it, it's getting some new goodies.  As it stands, here's my specs.
  • Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.4GHz
  • ASUS Maximus VII Gene
  • 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400 @ 11-13-13-31
  • Samsung 850 Pro - 256GB SSD
  • Swiftech H220x Expandable AIO Cooler
  • Corsair RM850 PSU - 80 Plus Gold
  • Corsair Obsidian 350D (hence the name "Sid")
  • eVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified
  • Dell UP2414Q 4K IPS monitor (birthday gift!)

For gaming up to 1440p @ High / Ultra, she's great, and for doing testing on Project CARS, she can do 1080p @ about 110fps, maxed out (no downsampling, but everything else maxed); 1440p only drops this to about 85 fps.  However, I want to do video recording / editing for Project CARS (homemade videos!), and a bit of future proofing in the process (I may go SLi / liquid loop on the classifieds).  I also found that the stock case fans are virtually useless with the 780 Ti in its way, and that the RM850 whines when the classy is on full load (I found out from corsair that it wasn't bright to put that card on that PSU... it won't hurt it, but it stresses out the components a LOT). That being said, here's the upgrades that are coming to this rig.

  • 16 MORE GB of Corsair Vengeance Pro 11-13-13-31 RAM (Total of 32GB, good for video editing, or making a RAMDisk / RAMCache)
  • 2x Noctua NF-A14 Industrial PPC IP67 2000rpm Fans for the front (more air intake - a good thing).
  • 3x Noctua NF-F12 Industrial PPC IP67 2000rpm Fans (1 for exhaust, 2 for the Swiftech H220x cooler).  The factory exhaust fan has very little actual fan speed (1200rpm max), and it really doesn't move much air out until it's at full speed (at which point it's deafening).  For the radiator fans up top, this is PURELY an experiment.  I have to hope that the fans will not make the size of the cooler so large that the 8-pin will be unable to be plugged in.  If they don't fit, then I will save them for a future liquid cooling expansion (240mm front radiator) for the time where I cool my Classy by liquid.
  • Seasonic 1050 Platinum XP3 PSU.  I want to have more efficiency, but more importantly a bit of "PSU wiggle room" in the event I upgrade to dual 780 Ti Classys (underwater).  I'm not an overclocker, so this should be plenty for gaming / benchmarking.
I'll post pictures as the parts are installed into the rig!  This is the starting point :-)

OK: so update 1:  I went and got the "Classified Optional BIOS" from EVGA, and flashed it.  The end result was my idle temps dropped 4 Deg C.  Strange (wasn't expecting that), but welcome.  Friday, I get the fans, the RAM, etc., and I may take pictures of progress step-by-step :).  Then I'll see if I can beat my highest OC of 1229 :-).  (1098 / 1163, that went up to 1229 on its own.)

It's a Swiftech H220x.  It's the byproduct of improving the H220 / CoolerMaster Glacer240L, and the patent suit Asetek filed against Swiftech that drove the H220 out of the US Market, and brought in the 240L.  The 220x is awesome.  It's near-silent when I'm not gaming, and when I'm gaming, it's a small woosh.

Thanks.  One of the limitations I had with this build was finding a case that could handle a 780 Ti, but NOT be deeper (front to back) than my desk.  The Obsidian 350D *JUST* fit with about 1cm of room front / back.  The goal of the build then was "small size, HUGE punch".  What I may do in the future is buy another Classified, put a water loop through them and the CPU.  I'm not an OCer, so the 1050w should be enough to push the whole thing when I do this (around early 2015).

In preparation for some upgrades, I rearranged some bits.  I put the SSD up in the 5.25 bay, removed the HDD enclosures, etc., for better ariflow.

Next: Let UPS get its head out of its rear... and put the fans, ram, and PSU in... then put in the 780 Ti Classy again and fire her back up.

    Here's the final result!

She now has 32GB DDR3-2400 RAM, a 1050w PSU (i'm gonna see if I can get past 1098 / 1163MHz / 1229 Max Boost), and 2x NF-A14 140mm Fans up front, and an NF-F12 120mm Fan out back (both 2000rpm IP67 Industrial variants).  I may put the other 2 NF-F12 IP67s up top in the radiator.  But I think she looks much better and her airflow is too.
