Looks kind of ok but not really a desktop OS like Windows 7 or Windows XP.
The Calculator looks like it was made for a small child or a computer interface for a small child as well.

Well the tech preview should be announced at the end of the month. Guess I'll have to test it out.

I wonder if WIN 9 will increase your boot up speeds just like windows 8 did. Hey less time the more happy I am because I am a inpatient person.

This looks like a nice compromise between Windows 7 and Windows 8. The advent of multiple devices was not something ever thought about by Microsoft until recently. They are making strides, but this continues to be a work in progress. I will test this on one of my rigs to see how it works before converting all machines to this new OS.

How much do you guys think windows 9 is going to cost? I say around $130-200 depending on where you get yours and what kind of deal you get. For example college students sometimes get a discount on a new OS but the down side to it is that the product key expires after 2-3 years. Basically my sister went that route while she was in school. But I wonder if they will gives those who have windows 8 a $30-60 discount to switch to windows 9?

I've seen a lot of people complain about the calculator app on other sites, too.

Notice at 0:25 the user clicks in "Accessories," where you see the usual suspects, Notepad, Paint, Remote Desktop, and most notably, Calculator. This is NOT the calculator the user clicks on. Instead of using calc.exe, he/she goes back to the root of the menu where the Windows "Modern" apps are listed.

There, he chooses a calculator app which is optimized for touch screen, hence the huge buttons. Most apps from the Windows Store are optimized for touch screen.

The old trusty Calculator program (which is in Win 8 also) will still be available it seems, but it appears that Microsoft has included its own app. This is good, as you don't have to buy or get a "free" version from a software developer of unknown reputation.

For me it looks like Windows 8.1 with startbutton and the "apps" window attached to it...

If this is the most bigger feature of Windows 9 and if the core of the OS remains the same as 8.1, I don't know how M$ can sell it as a brand new one.
Think about linux and the different UI you can install (KDE, Gnome ...), same OS, different UI.

This is looking the same, the only diference is that you must spend $ to have it because they sell it as a "brand new one". M$ is getting lazy. Only my .2

Some sources say this version may be free to Windows 7/XP users to get them onto this version. It still seems that Windows 7 is still far out the number 1 version of the OS. Currently Microsoft is the only OS that requires additional cost for a user to upgrade from version to version. Since Apple manufactures both the hardware and the software, they include the cost intend purchase price. Since Microsoft is a third-party to the PC manufacturer and buyer, this may be more difficult. I have used the student discounts to get much of software library, as I have gotten many items for free or at a substantial discount. Not sure if this runs out after a period of time. I guess I will know in due time.

Before Win 8 was released, Microsoft sold an upgrade to Win 8 Professional ($199.99 for retail version currently) for just $40. They did a similar thing with Win 7, where Win 7 Pro was available for half price ($99). Hopefully they will do something like this again.

It is definitely just a newer windows 8.1 build marked as windows 9 to segment it from windows 8.

The core os is still windows 8.1. The main difference is the start menu. Clicking PC settings still brings up the new annoying touch optimized settings panel, but it's just windowed. I can see this being free or heavily discounted for current windows 8.1 users, but for xp/7 users there will probably be an upgrade version for like $79.99.

I wonder if WIN 9 will increase your boot up speeds just like windows 8 did. Hey less time the more happy I am because I am a inpatient person.

Why don't you just leave your PC on all the time? You won't have to deal with booting up then.

Windows 9 has no boot screen - so the old windows logo start up screens are gone
it's suppose to boot directly into desktop

Also be aware windows wants to go to subscription based license
so if you want updates you pay for it yearly

This is my fear with this new OS. Micro$oft will find a way to extract more money from us. They have a history of this. Recently an Italian court said they cannot charge for the software on a new PC. There is a reason Mr Gates is as wealthy as he is. I may consider Linux. Apple also does not charge for each version, although their premium pricing has the OS built into it.

If that subscription based license also includes security updates then you will see a revolt. People, in general, are not going to buy security updates, especially when they have been included with the OS in the past and like Win 8 will hand Microsoft a repeat performance.

well they are toying with a free or cheap base version
and users paying for upgrades and apps

    think windows 365

there should also be a Windows ultimate version

new piracy measures are coming too... they should be talking about that when they release the preview

Unlimited activation - so you can re -install as many times or on as many computers in your household
it was kinda senseless anyways you had 3 activations before(without calling)...so you could put it on 3 computers in a house anyways
