Was wondering if anyone has tried the HT Omega eCLARO PCIe sound card with the EVGA X79 Dark?  http://www.htomega.com/eclaro.html.  I need 7.1 channels with Dolby Pro Logic IIx for watching online movies with the Razer Tiamat 7.1 headphones.  Unfortunately the EVGA X79 Dark doesn't have Dolby Pro Logic II.  Seems like all the 7.1 channel sound cards are either low to mid range and a few years old.  Any suggestions?

1 - Dolby Pro Logic II is only emulated 5.1 (from stereo signal) ; you won't get true 7.1 signal. See http://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologies/dolby-pro-logic-ii.html ; and it sounds awfull !

2 - with Realtek ALC 898, all Dolby features can be unlocked with modded drivers ; it works : tested one week ago on Asus P9X79 WS (same sound chip) ; I am not sure that moderators will let me explain here how to achieve this. But you will find with Google... I absolutely don't trust modded drivers, as they have to work in an environment without driver signature control : a very good entry point for hackers to put troyans and get zombies. I tested, just for fun (I own a Xonar U7), and then reinstalled Windows (backup disk image) ! You could do that just to test sound, before you buy a decent sound card...

why make it simple when it can be complicated ????

Thanks for the post.  My mistake, I meant Dolby Pro Logic IIx which is the 7.1 version.   Currently I am using a Creative Soundblaster ZXR and Sennheiser headphones.  For games it is pretty good but for watching online movies online the sound is very washed out.  I ordered the eCLARO sound card today.  From what I have read it seems like one of the few choices to utilize the Razer Tiamat 7.1 channel.

    I see !

I had a similar problem with my true 5.1 headset (XTatic Pro, DD only, SPDIF in only) : Dolby Digital Live and SPDIF output needed, and sound card had to be external (no more PCIE slot) ! No much choice...

5.1 is great, 7.1 should be amazing ! Emulated 7.1 from true 5.1 is for sure far better and natural than 5.1 DSP'ed from 2.0.

I did'nt know the Razer. Looks great.
