Hey guys,

I need help and your advice. I run i7 5960X at 4.4 Ghz on X99 Classified and during stress test on Aida64 I'm getting message "CPU Throttling - Overheating Detected". I mean, I understand message pops because temperature is high, is there a way to play with settings in bios and lower it slightly. For cooling I use Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme it runs on Maximum during test. I attached some screenshots for you guys too. Btw I have no issues running CPU at 4.2 Ghz. Thank you for your help!

Per Tom's Hardware' Intel Haswell-E CPU Overclocking review, under "CPU Health", it seems that the limit that the H-E cpus like to go to is 88 Deg C.  Your max is 89 Deg C.  That could be why it is throttling.

I have seen a few videos on YouTube stating that their AIO was holding them back. 89 is pretty high on that one core, so you may need to hold it back to 4.2 or 4.3 until you can get a better way to cool the cpu.

Yeh I tried different water coolers doesn't look like there is big difference in temperature. I have 9 fans in my Cosmos II case I doubt there is a problem with airflow, if you guys know better solutions or better coolers please advice. Thank you much!

Those are some seriously hot temps.  At 4.2 my CPU is basically room temp.  At 4.4 it gets into the 50's and 4.6 into the 60's, but low 60's.  Of course I have a WC loop but still....

Well I tried few different cooling devices. So far I tried Cooler Master V8 GTS, Cooler Master Seidon 280L and currently running Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme. Difference in temps was not big around +-5c . Can you advice where I can purchase the same system as you use? or any other recommendations?

I am running water cooled like gutcheck, dont remember what waterblock he uses but I use "Ek-Supremacy EV0 - (Original CSQ) Full Nickel". I am running 4ghz right now with my 5930 at idle I'm sitting at around 22c to 25c. I will overclock more just haven't had the time.

If memory serves, like myself, he is running a custom water loop, not something that is whole, off the shelf.  Several of us could go over what we use, but this is a bit of an investment as well to do a custom loop and do it right.
Have you tried upgrading the fans on any of your AIO's?

If you want to try another water cooling CPU solution then I suggest the Corsair Hydro H110.

Completely rethink your internal case airflow scheme and see if that can be improved.

You can try increasing TJMax (Advanced>CPU section) Of course it will run hotter, but should keep it from throttling.

I'm debating to try new coolers. I'm thinking about

    CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Extreme

    or
    this

    CORSAIR Hydro Series H110 Extreme

    what you guys suggest?

The i Version have more reviews fans are faster and louder, same time it's cheaper that might be that's why there is more reviews. I'm not trying to get cheaper product I'm trying to get better temps, so im ok to spend more in order to keep my PC cooler.

Get a Swiftech H220x.  It's expandable (for GPUs), has proper tubes (3/8 ID and 5/8 OD), and it has proper pump.  ALso, the radiator is copper, the block is copper, so galvanic corrosion risk is much reduced.  I have one in my rig, and even running Linpack for 12 hours @ 4.4GHz, the temps never went above 65 Deg C.

The only downside is, if you think it weighs the same as the thermaltake, think again... it's easily DOUBLE the heft... but the expandability, cooling power, etc., is worth it.

Cool, I just ordered this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TivNOgQqW-M with extended 120mm radiator in the case I'll need it. We will see how it will perform. I managed to drop few degrees the same Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme, it looks like I applied to much thermo compound - DAH )) . Still getting throttling but only 5 minutes under stress test on 4.4GZ.

I raised TJMax from 83 to 87 no luck, don't want raise it higher.

Do you guys think I can drop voltage a bit from 1.320? Will that help and what you think will be acceptable voltage for 4.4 - 4.5?

    Thanks!

I like CORSAIR too but this look excellent.

If someone want to cool down one graphic card and CPU together and satisfied with 60-65-70C can do that with Swiftech.
Off course most of people expect 50-55C with overclocked card and overclocked CPU for that need system and bigger rad.
For Intel Xtreme 8 core best is one 240mm radiator, D5 and reservoir, tube or Dual Bay + EK Supremacy EVO or Koolance 380.

Hey Koshelkov,  is a custom loop no option for you or why do you want to stay with an all in one system?
I mean its an i7 5960X give him some love in fact of cooling hardware if you want to OC more in the future and dont forget about getting your board cooled too.

It is not just the CPU, a problem some users ran into is the missing airflow normally generated by the cpu fan.

I Got my Classified too today still waiting for CPU und Ram and im waiting for some waterblocks fitting this beuaty so hard.

    Have a nice day!

i have been using the H110 and have had no issues with cooling @ 4.2ghz

I dont have issues cooling 4.2 ghz, I'm getting issues at 4.4+

@f0rtune well I'm looking for better/clean/quite solution to keep this thing cool. I mainly want it to be quite. I have Cosmos II case fully loaded with fans.

I just got a Costa Rica as well, so hopefully it isn't too bad for cooling.

Thats what i would say makes a custom loop even more attractive.

Agreed, with a well setup loop you will get far more cooling as well as quiet.

Usually the reviews say that Costa Rica chips will overclock better on average.

Alright guys, here is and update. I switched to Swiftheck h220-x http://www.swiftech.com/H220-X.aspx and extremely satisfied. This thing is extremely quite compare to all other loops that I had, I added extra 120mm radiator and two more fans and now I'm running 5960X at 4.5Ghz with out issues, stable and with in acceptable temps at full load. I have 11 fans installed total.
