A week ago I've upgraded to EVGA SuperNova 1600-G2 and appreciate the stable power it provides for three WC OC Titans @ 1.212v (pushed them to 1150/7000 perfectly stable). This PSU is a tank, very solid build/performance! However I am finding it to be a really noisy addition. The PSU has added a very distinctive, "industrial" rumble to a water cooled rig which was almost silent (I've adjusted the speed of all the 20 fans to the point where they produced very gentle "rustling" sound).

The TechPowerUp review has measured the noise level produced by SuperNOVA 1600-G2 at 47.90 dbA, while they also measured Corsair AX1500o at 36.07 dbA: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/SuperNOVA_G2_1600/10.html

I would hate to return the EVGA unit it and buy a $100more expensive (and 100W less powerful) Corsair unit, however the new "acoustical profile" of my rig is really getting to me, even when PC is completely silent (consuming <300W).

Does anyone else have a similar experience with this model, or could I have drawn a particularly noisy unit? Anything I could do to reduce the noise?

sure the noise is coming from the PSU? is it kind of coil whine or rather fan made noise?
it's really strange to read you can hear a noise from the PSU in a system using 20fans for cooling.
nothings about noise to read form JonnyGuru's review either.

Yes, it is odd that I've noticed a new (and somewhat irritating) sound in a system with 20 fans. But the new PSU was the only upgrade I've made (the 20 fans were there already) -- that's why I've noticed it. The nature of the new sound is hard to pin-point/describe, the best word I (non-native speaker) can some up with to describe it is "industrial". It sounds to me more like a motor rumbling than air coming from the new PSU fan, and at first I suspected something went wrong with my D5 pump (which does have a "whiny" tone to it. BTW I keep it on the "2" setting out of 5 max, with RPM measured by Lamptron at 2700RPM). I've just turned down all 20 fans to zero RPM and listened -- the new sound is lower in timbre than that of D5. It is lower in tone, with a hint of vibration.

especially the "hint of vibration" tends to point to the PSU fan, assuming the PSU sits tight in its corner.
can you feel some vibration when touching the top side of the PSU while it's on?
maybe it's worth talking to some tech support guys at EVGA depending on which country you reside in.

I don't have an answer for you so I'm trying to see if an EVGA tech has the time to respond

I haven't experienced anywhere close to 47 dbA from the 1600G2 and I have an actual sound lab at my university too so I can confirm that.
