My wife birthday is coming up and her iPad 4th Gen was KIA and would like to replace it with a similar tablet. Would like it to be android to match her note 3. She would like to be able to hook it up to the TV and watch movies through it. Any thoughts on what I should get her?

I would suggest a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10. The 7 is made by ASUS and the 10 by Google. I use my Nexus 5 to do just that and it too works great (most reliable using a Slimport dongle but is supposed to be unmatched using a Chromecast and the Cast Screen feature).

I would imagine that most of the current Samsung tablets would probably be more compatible with her Note 3, especially, if she uses the Samsung apps a lot. The Note 8.0 and 10.1 would be the best of the Samsung tablets to pair with her phone. The problem with the Nexus 10 (made by Samsung but Google's Nexus brand) is that it has been out for a couple of years so the hardware is getting a bit old compared to current and upcoming tablets. The Nexus 10 is also wifi only, I believe. But, if having the latest & greatest hardware and wifi only isn't important then the Nexus 10 is a good choice. My mother has one and from what little I have used it it seems like a good tablet. The Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition and the Nexus 10 screens have 2560 X 1600 resolutions. The big advantage that the Nexus branded tablets (and phones) is that they are the first devices to get Android OS updates whereas with the Notes you have to wait for Samsung to release their new version of android. Also, if you or your wife wants to root and use custom ROMs the Nexus 10 would be the easiest tablet for that.

What this guy said. ^ Nexus 7 is the best tablet out there so far. Why because its a great price, plenty of speed for gaming, great display sharpness, and best of all is its pure android so you dont have to deal with all that bloatware like Samsung puts on their tablets. O ya dont forget you will be the first ones to get the newest updates since it comes straight from Google. By the way Nexus 10 is a good choice too and is still very fast with that sexy 2560x1440 front speaker display.

    Why Android?

Apple TV is over $100. Chromecast is $35, is tiny, requires very little electricity, and also does Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, HBO GO, EPSN, etc. Also, it is not screen mirroring, but what is in my opinion a superior option - your tablet/smartphone tells the Chromecast to connect to Netflix/whatever and start showing whatever you are currently watching. Your tablet/smartphone then is simply a remote control. You can turn the screen off (saving battery), or look at Facebook, check email, turn your device off completely, or leave the house, and the Chromecast will continue streaming video until the program is finished.

I put one on the TV in my bedroom, and I've been very happy with it.

I have a Chromecast now too, buying it shortly after I added my previous post. Now it provides mirroring, unlike before when select apps worked with it. Some apps detect that you are casting and change to a different interface but most of the time, it's WYSIWYG.

My Chromecast doesn't replace my Apple TV. If there are apps on my phone that I want to cast to the TV, I cast it. Otherwise, I conveniently turn on my Apple TV and use my Apple wireless keyboard. Both are great, personally.

I have chromecast, Roku and apple tv too. I think the Apple TV is a better product, however they are both nice.
