Been looking around online for a bit now but i just cannot come up with a good solution to this question.

pretty much looking to see if there's a decent way to capture video from my desktop onto my laptop so it can do all the processing/uploading and not take a performance hit on the gaming side of things

i know there's desktop capture cards you can use to do this but cant seem to find any information on external ones that could be used with a laptop

any information/help is always greatly appreciated :)

    Couldn't you use nVidia Shadowplay?

yeah i have that all setup along with OBS and other similar programs which works great for stuff like WoW/league of legends...but what im trying to get rid of is the performance hit in the more demanding games...and just simply capture the video signal since a lot of games wont correctly support fullscreen with those types of streaming programs

Doesn't ShadowPlay have a very minimal performance hit? I thought the performance hit was extremely small, didn't realize it took a toll in more demanding games. Only other way then would be using a capture card on the laptop. You would use a video out from the desktop to the capture card on the laptop. Whether you can get streaming to twitch to work with that set-up, I'm not sure.

shadowplay does work pretty good but on battlefield 4 or witcher or something it drops my fps under 100 which on a 120hz monitor makes it start looking pretty choppy

ive been using OBS which i believe uses the same tech as shadowplay for using your vid card to do a lot of the processing which has been working ok just looking into other options for smoother play on my end while being able to stream

was thinking of trying this out...its software has a built in version of OBS sort of which lets you stream straight from there just not sure how i would go about getting audio/video out of it AND my headset/speakers on the pc doing the gaming since all it has is HDMI passthrough

unfortunately anything that has DVI + seperate audio inputs/outputs is upwards of $500-700 haha

I've played games @ 100fps on my gf's 120hz Alienware and it was very smooth still. Are you running 3D as well or something?

A device such as this: http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-Edition-Definition-Capture-Passthrough/dp/B00BQ7KICQ/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_12?ie=UTF8&refRID=0Y75KE2B826WZXRTRD7A

would allow you to record on the laptop from your desktop @ 1080p but streaming directly to twitch with that would be harder.

Maybe when the 880s come out you can sell those 680s and get a pair of 880s. You could use shadow play while still getting 120+ fps
