Yeah the last time I purchased a hard copy I had to download it anyway...not to the price is always better and how it's much easier not to have to mess with disks or moding the exe so you don't need the disk. I think digital downloads are here to stay.

I don't buy physical copies of games, all digital. From more that 4 years ago, all my computers skip the optical DVD unit... If I install a SO, y burn it in a thumbdrive...
For me, optical drives for PC are long dead in terms of useability.

Optical drives are still usefully for backing up and make copies of your movie collection for home servers, but I agree digital downloads are the only way to go for games.

    'NO one" ?? - I still do & prefer physical .

If internet bandwidth was higher & there were NO limit caps on data for homeowners ( within reason ) I might go digital a little bit more than I do but that isn't the case.  Games just keep getting bigger & bigger to download and almost no one gives a discount on any newer games on the digital versions versus the physical.

In fact, most times it is the opposite - Amazon almost always has the physical box cheaper than the digital version.

I wouldn't mind if games came on like a thumb drive or some kind of small format device like that , over a dvd disc , but no one has done that yet either.

Who's to say that isn't the case 10 years from now? Hell, there's enough money in digital hats to run a poor country for several years, why wouldn't a digital collection become a worthwhile investment down the road if people are already investing that much in non-tangible goods already?

What I find dumb about it -- it used to be that the excuse for $60 titles was that publishers spent so much on shelf space and making physical product. That's no longer the case, yet here we are still with $60 titles and $120 in DLC.

I have very few disks anymore. I hate them cluttering up my space and I am not the type that will install more than once usually. I will however try to get a physical copy of Wolfenstien once the prices are reasonable because 50 gigs would take my computer FOREVER to download.

The only physical copies I'll go for are impressive limited edition sets, which are rare.  Otherwise yeah, no point in buying hard copies.

I haven't bought a physical copy of a game in ages, i always just get it via steam.  As steam has sales on games i do still have physical copies of i buy them so that i can retire disks entirely.  I do keep a blu-ray drive in my PC though so that i can store a copy of all my movies on my server.

I understand what you're saying, but games are discounted so fast these days that you'd be nuts to buy the day of release anyways. Devs charge $60 for a game on release day because idiots will pay it, rather than wait a whole month and pay $40.

I have about 60 games. About 75% of them are physical copies. Last physical copy I bought was Wolfenstein: The new order.

When it has editor tools and solid content I want to take a look at then yes I enjoy having a hard copy. But i agree and sometimes wonder if it will become you don't own that its just a loan until the next version or if your not online your not allowed to use it even in single player.

Brotha you are 100% accurate on that!! Thats why I can be patient to buy a stupid little video game. Its not like the video game is going to go anywhere. I try to tell that to my friends and the never listen.

Lets not forget the real reason to the rise of cost in video games is inflation. I am sure you and anyone else notices that everything you buy in the grocery store and the mall is going up in price.

The last collector's edition I purchased was Warhammer Online. From what I understand WAR isn't even running anymore. I wouldn't know though because I've not played it in years.

I've seriously just decided to start collecting collectors editions. I love having the hard copy of games. I don't know why but I feel like its a piece of nostalgia for me. Right now I have Assassins Creed Unity, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Ill only get CE's of games that actually meant something to me or are so badass that I need to show it. Im PC all the way but I wish Naughty Dog had released a CE of The Last of Us. GREAT game/story.

    Happy hunting!

Im PC all the way but I wish Naughty Dog had released a CE of The Last of Us. GREAT game/story.

They did, two versions actually. The Survival Edition and the Post-Pandemic Edition.

I used to buy physical copies on PC but don't as much anymore. What's the point when 98% of them are tied to a Steam/Origin/uPlay account and are required to play? Rendering your physical copy no different than a digital copy. I understand the desire to buy physical though, its just losing the pros it used to have. Plus there's usually big discounts for buying digitally. I still keep all my older DRM free games though like KoToR, ME1, Oblivion/Morrowwind, etc. I have the Witcher 3 CE pre-ordered too since it is DRM free and the disc will still be viable. If I buy a console game its always on disc though, always.
