That looks good. I run some of my hardware outside of a case as well. It helps to keep the hardware costs and space requirements down to a minimum. In addition, running systems without cases makes it simple to air out the hardware using an air compressor and to change hardware like GPUs around as needed.

The one thing I always had a problem with in an "open air case": the SSD weighs so little that the power and SATA cables actually picked it up off the table. It's a little unnerving playing games off a hard drive that is dangling from a couple cables.

LOL...  Those are all awesome!!  When I used to fold I had my server rig sitting under my TV in my living room.  It was quite the conversation starter.

Nice!  I may have some to contribute when I get back to the states and start building my rigs with my bros.  We have 6 systems to build and I'm going to keep it a simple stand up open case design using ply or MDF.  Why spend $250 or more on cases when you can spend way less than half that and build them.

On another note my buddy built a cooling duct for his stock 1366 CPU fan with CD-RE containers.

Seriously, how loud was that!? :) Major props though. That thing is a monster! Always love the open air slab of wood. I'm actually getting ready to mount my 3 crunchers to a plank and shove em in a closet. My desk is getting a little to warm for my comfort.. Just need a few more brackets and I'm good to go!

Well, I fried that mobo awhile ago and that reminds me, I have 4 Opteron 6128's up for grabs to anyone who wants them. They came to me from tanner2 and I'll pay them forward. PM me somebody.

It's not that loud.  The two Cougar fans are near silent, you only hear the 80mm's on the heatsinks.

There in a closet :P wireless repeater/switch, literally hung from the coat rack (reinforced a little with a bracket and hung with some 75lb steel wire), fans barely spin.. nice and cool. And yes that's a 650 ti 2GB SSC on a 2 core duo powered by a 300W PSU.. It can be done!!

I guess I will have to join this.
This is just until my new case gets here (Fractal Design Arc XL).
My current case was causing the cards to get hot & loud (because of spacing).
Old temps gpu 1-79c, gpu 2-77c (both at 60% fan)  New temps gpu 1-66c, gpu 2-64c (47% & 44% fan respectively)

    Update!

Ever since I purchased my H8QME-2 I have been curious about that pci-e slot.  I've had a 560ti lying around but I didn't want to cut the tab off my gpu.  Finally got around to trying out a usb riser like they use in mining rigs (a whopping $5 on amazon).  IT WORKS!  After some creative mounting and a crash course in setting up an nvidia gpu in ubuntu, I've got it up and running with GPUGrid to test it out.  So far so good!
