I like the FTW E color better.... why oh why the red e on the classy.  I imagine a water block will fix that.

Yes after installation bottom and top cooler that will be completely different picture... I'm still not sure about PCB color, we will see that on pictures and reviews if they use same as on Z97 Classified that could look nice. I say it's not only sign E, this channels on heatsinks are ugly, on flat surface this sign E could look completely different, not excellent maybe but far better than now.
Maybe EKWB launch waterblock to cover everything from bottom heatsink on chipset/CPU/top heatsink with only two fittings in CPU area but ...
That's under question.

These boards are less than inspiring. at least to me.  Not that I want some bling-bling flashy tacky board, but I don't know...these just look too boring and bland.  To each their own.  I do wish more companies would use the 90deg connectors though, that is a nice feature.

not being on the offense, but what would you personally want?

Honestly, I can't really put my finger on what I think is lacking with these.    I know everyone's opinion and likes are different and it is near impossible to please everyone.  Of course once the board is installed and GPUs and other hardware is installed, not a lot is really visible anyway, but I guess I would like a little more color.  The upper heatsink for the VRMs looks like an afterthought to me, a bit blocky and just a blob.

Everything else is just a bit too monotone, being mostly black.  Of course, you add more red and then people say its too much red.  I most always prefer understated looks over gaudy things, but these are almost too understated.  Just my opinion, not meaning to get anyone to agree with me.

Big E is ugly as hell. IMO they should go back to scheme of the original classifieds.

I agree though the board does look rather blank. Needs something to contrast I think. (Nothing gaudy like the E).

I am still confused about the power on the Classified board. Two 8-pin CPU/memory power connectors? Nice. But only 8-phase to the CPU? I am confused. Again, not complaining. Just confused. There must be something I am not seeing. I also see a 6-pin power connector for the video cards which is nice. And each x16 slot has its own voltage regulator. Nice. The sound circuitry looks decent too.

I will take the wait and see approach, wait on reviews to see how all the contenders perform.
For me function will always  win out over appearance.
Besides we need to wait for the sorting out  of the bugs that always  happen when a new chip set is introduced.
And like most of you my system is plenty capable, and will be for a while,so i can bide my time.

  My specs.
Case-Corsair 800D full tower~LG Bluray  Burner.
Processor-Intel I7-3770K @4.2GHZ~Lighton Bluray Burner.

Memory-G.SKILL Ripjaws x 32GB. DDR3 1600 Dual Channel.
GPU-EVGA GTX-TITAN SC x2 in SLI  Water cooled EK full XXL blocks.
Power Supply-Corsair AX1200 Gold.

Where did you see information about the 8-phase for the cpu? If its because of the heatsink, then we don't really know. Asus made a heatsink that didn't look like it did crap and it was 12-phase.

Not just the size of the heatsink. If there are more than 8 CPU phases there, they are hiding somewhere else. Number of phases isn't everything. But usually more phases have a bit more voltage stability and can handle more power. But maybe those 8 phases are very well designed and pass through very beefy MOSFETs. It just seems odd at face value to have those two 8-pin power sources through 8 phases.

bcavnaugh you talk about retirement from gaming and hardware...
My neighbor, doctor surgeon, more than 50 years still build computers...
He know every news about Intel and NVIDIA, annual subscription for few magazines about IT technology and hardware...
He can't wait to finish with jobs once for all to start gaming because now have very small time for that.

Nope, from the work force. Now I can really start learning to Game.
As far as building new computers that will not stop only take me much longer to do on a fixed income.

I am not slamming EVGA's motherboards. I just said that I was surprised that their Classified board (usually the "all-out" model) didn't have more power phases and larger heatsinks. Not a slam at all. Pricing and value are important to people also. It just surprised me.

I burnt a MOSFET on one of my MSI boards BTW while doing high voltage subzero CPU cooling. So I am not saying the MSI board is any better in this department or anything like that.

according to (http://techgage.com/news/a-quick-look-at-evgas-x99-motherboard-lineup/) the matx has 6phase, FTW has 8 phase, and classified has 10 phases.

I don't know what to say other than that there are 8 phases pictured in the classified board imagery posted above. Compare EVGA Z97 to X99 if you wish. The other two phases are either hidden under the heatsink or are existing in a board revision produced after the release of the last board images. If you want to discuss VRM, PWM, DC/PDC, and how to make heads or tails of it all, feel free to PM me. I have dabbled a lot with PWM, voltage regulators, subzero cooling, world records, and pioneered volt mods with products otherwise ignored.

Your link says "It'll" (It will) [the Classified board] include 10 phase power. "It will" makes me think that maybe the final release board has more than the present showcase board pictured.
