XCTC?

Running another prototype run. This time as 2 at a time, with a much nicer piece of aluminum.

As soon as these come off the machine I want to start knocking out the batch. You should have invoices in your inboxes. Please take care of them so I can order the materials and get to work. For those of you who want in, shoot me a PM or email this week. This will likely be a limited run.

The dog?  yup.

Uber, funny, the guy who donated the board is at XCTC as well.  ALSO one of my friends just got back from there as well.

The tool plate:

Verified all the screws fit in the locations, so thats a huge weight off my mind...

Going for the double prototype to test all the tool paths:

Machining the pair:

Haha indeed :P ubernator44 is my old gamer tag. I actually use it more often then deathstroke. I created way back, back when quake 3 was popular (still is with me and my friends) and then again when bf2 was cutting edge :P its my bf3 and 4 name if anyone is interested, haven't played them in forever though.

OK for something on topic. As per my curiosity, are the blocks going to have the inlet/outlet holes go all the way through the metal as well, like the hydrocoppers? It would make sli so much easier lol

Look at the lower block on the last picture.  You can kinda see that.  You ever see a VGA waterblock without them all the way through?  Duh....
;)

I have the chipset heights cutting.  I will have a pic of it tonight.

Re: GTX 680 Waterblock - Sign up here 2014/08/13 08:04:40 (permalink)
As always there comes a time in every project where you have a "whoopsie" moment.

That was a hex head bolt.  Now is more like half a hex head bolt.  Another reason I use carbide tooling.

On to better pictures:

This is just prior to the chip heights cutting.  Basically I have to measure each height, take into account a certain compression of thermal pads, make contact with the GPU, and still avoid touching anything im not supposed too.  I should have more pics tonight.

As soon as this is done i am ready to start the batch.  Sadly there hasn't been much of a following for this block so I am guessing this will be a single production run.

Nice work Nate XD sorry to hear about the bolt :S hope that doesn't ruin your stuff :( paid my share of the raw materials cost. I'm surprised to see that not many people want the block :P

So... after a FULL DAY of machining... we have something that looks like this:

Literally, a FULL DAY.  I started 23 hours ago.  I took the day off to knock out the first pair, and i haven't even got around to the plastic tops yet.

Oh it cost me a 4 day weekend to machine.  This are an incredible amount of work.  I will have some updates likely tomorrow.  All the copper is cut.  The Delrin tops are next.
