I purchased a couple of things from American Muscle and included in that was a new hood for my car... I had to pay an extra $75 for a freight charge... Not a problem. It had a delivery estimate of Friday (I know it's an estimate, However they usually arrive by then) everything arrived except the hood, I got a call saying I needed to schedule an appointment for delivery, Even though UPS My Choice did tell me the set delivery date was Friday (No longer an Estimate) and I asked them about that, They said they have no idea what my choice is. (What? How can they work for UPS and not know about their services??) Whatever, I agreed for an appoint until Monday from 12pm-5pm. I work night shift, But stayed up just in case they came to deliver my hood... I had already removed my bumper and hood (Installing the grille and waiting for the hood) Ahh, So excited!!!! Running on nearly 24 hours of no sleep for this, Yeah!!

It's now about 4PM and I see UPS arrive and I go up to it to receive it. The driver (And I thank the driver for this) tells me to open it before I accept it, Because sometimes car parts get damaged during delivery due to manufacturer packaging being terrible... The box has 1 corner looking extremely damaged and another one looking slightly damaged, So I open it and what do you know?

What a shame... This thing would look beautiful on my car.

Fortunately, He signed on his delivery copy that he witnessed the hood arriving damaged and signed it, Then gave me a couple phone numbers to call the carrier and file a claim, I also called American Muscle and told them what happened, They said it was a good thing the driver did that. They'll be helping me out with this (I'd hope so).

I would ask if anyone has had any bad experiences with UPS, But I'm sure 90% of you have from what I've read. LOL.

Sounds like a good experience to me. The packaging is issue of the retailer, not the shipper. The driver telling you to inspect the part before he left is first rate delivery in my book.

Yeah I have to agree that was really nice of the driver to tell you and wait. Yeah it was damaged in shipping but it doesn't look like it was packed that well either.

It's funny how we pay $700+ on a new hood and they spend $10 on packaging it. I know it's Cervini due to the packaging, However it looks like they dropped it from a height, Else the box wouldn't be as damaged as it was.

I always try to inspect fragile items with the driver there. If you can get the drivers input on damage it can help. I hope they get you an undamaged hood. It will be very nice looking when finished.

i would say they needed to pack that hood better IMO.  something that large shouldn't have been simply in just a cardboard box but have a simple wooden frame around it, nothing substantial but enough to protect the sides.  I've looked at an aftermarket hood for my G6 and thankfully they are located about 2-3 hours from me.  Gonna take a pickup and pick it up rather than deal with shipping.

I ordered a hood in the 90's for my Mustang and it came in a VERY rigid cardboard box and what looked like a pool noodle all the around the perimeter of the hood.  It was perfectly intact.  That is one nice hood you have picked out there though.

Where I work I deal with UPS everyday. You'd be surprised how many times they broker their loads out to other companies instead of paying their own people the entire way. So your hood was probably handled multiple times so there is a greater chance of it being damaged. If only usps handled bigger freight. It is handled fewer times and it seems over the years I've had better luck with them over fedex or ups.

That's not correct. UPS shipments are only handled by UPS employees until delivered. UPS does use the rail system, where a trailer is put on a train, but the packages are never handled by the train service. UPS is phasing this out for faster deliveries. The only shipments that could go into other hands are Surepost shipments. This is a deal between UPS and USPS where UPS drops the package(s) off at the post office and the post office delivers it, but these packages are considered delivered at the time the post office signs for them. Although if a UPS driver is delivering on the street of the package address that day, UPS will deliver it directly to the customer.

This is why UPS International shipments are more expensive then the post office. Your International package will be delivered by a UPS employee in that country, never going third party like the post office does. This reduces lost shipments and more easily tracked shipments.

I'm not even sure that's $5 in packaging counting the box itself. Given the weight it was just begging for the corners to get damaged packaged like that...

An option is just to refuse delivery if the package looks damaged... providing it's a signature required delivery of course.

We have UPS truckloads that are picked up by non-ups drivers at our building. They are taken to a transit facility, unloaded and then loaded onto other trucks that are ups drivers. So they actually are handled multiple times.
