I have been building systems for a little over a year, and I am at a strange point that I can not get past on this x79 Dark/3930k build.

When I plug everything in, set up outside of the box for testing with a watercooling loop specifically designated for the CPU itself, I can get a click as the PSU tries to provide power, but nothing more.

Twice I have received post codes.. FF, which I located the post code issue here: Click me : and I have tried everything I can think of.  The PSU is the Seasoninc 1050w from Little Bother, and all wiring and one 760 are also borrowed from Little for testing purposes only. Everything will come from Big when the time comes, but it is too much to break down the entire water loop just to test.

Using the XPG Ram in Slots 1 and 3 as well.  Water flow is good and cold, as there is nothing else in the loop and there is a 240mm radiator holding everything together.  All cables are seated Flush and Tight, and I have even included the secondary 8 pin CPU thinking maybe that could have been the issue.

I have cleared CMOS, removed the CMOS battery, tried all of the BIOS selector switch options, and have not yielded any results at this time.

The only next step I can take, is to pull the PSU out of BIG and see if maybe the wiring is slightly different between the Enermax PSU and the Seasonic, but that will take a little longer, as I would have to go through finding a few of the wires from the secondary PSU that I have as a backup..

Before I do that, does anyone else have any other ideas or better options, so that I can avoid jumping through some fairly unnecessary hoops to get this systems running?

P.S. for anyone that has followed anything I have been saying, my 780Ti's were "gone" for a little while.. they went to Aus, where all three were tested with the 3930k that I have installed, showing that the CPU is fine.. the only thing that has not been tested, was the x79 Dark, prior to my purchase of it, so I am hoping that I don't have to RMA as it would have to go through too many hands to get back to me, since Military addresses (APO) is something that EVGA doesn't ship to.

*EDIT* Just hit Clear CMOS and now I am getting Post Code C.  Going to try to pull the PSU out of Big, and see if that may be causing the problem, as advised here: Click me : and will repost back later.

Just throwing this out there, but do you have your board laying on something like cardboard making sure nothing is shorting out?

Beyond that, the PSU swap is a good idea to rule out a power issue.

Just did the PSU Swap, and nothing more than already reported happens.  I have tried 3 PSUs, 2 CPUS, all wiring I have and nothing changes.   The board is on the CardBoard box that it came in, so a grounding issue is not the problem. :-|  Getting a little frustrated, as I wanted to have this completed prior to going on leave.

Yes.  There are no visibly bent or missing pins either.  Emailed the individual that I purchased the board from and waiting for response.  Time will tell, and if nothing else, I will send it back to EVGA for a RMA.  I have one more 4820k that I could test it with, but I would have to break down a buddies computer completely, and walk 5 miles (no cars in Korea) round trip just to try it, when I have already tested it with Proven CPUs and PSUs as well as a Proven Graphics card.

You seem to have done a lot of good testing.  My I suggest did you put the separate 12 volt 8-pin power cord from the PSU to the plug at the top edge of the board on the left side of the CPU.

check all power connections at the PSU and MB

I had this happen a few days ago when I reconfigured the water loop on my rig. I didn't have the 24pin connected all the way in on the PSU got the FF and brief power and shutdown. check my cables and found that. Fired right up after.

Didn't disconnect the wires from the PSU itself, and moved everything back to the original builds, and everything is functioning properly right now.

Tried 2 completely different PSUs and made sure everything was snug on the MoBo, and still nothing. :-\

EVGA is suggesting I try everything I have already mentioned, so I am going to attempt to RMA this board. Let's see what happens with the APO address issue :-/

Prior to RMA, I decided to attempt one more motherboard, Asrock, and make sure the 3930k wasn't the problem. 3 PSUs, 3 motherboard, 3 GPUs, 3 ram set, and the only thing not working is the x79 Dark. Definitely time to send this board back, and incur the headache of being in the military, and having to pay super shipping rates around the world. Yay....

That's a bummer.  Sure sounds like the board is the issue after all your troubleshooting...

Yeah, I am pretty sure it is the issue, and the RMA is processing.  I am not upset.  It is part of life and the electronic world.  The only thing that worried me prior to being able to test this board, is that there was no anti-static bag, so I am not sure if that would have any bearing, but I am sending it bag in hopes that I can get a good RMA board, and get the last build up and running ;-)

So you reused the wiring from the enermax to the seasonic? That's not a good idea cause a lot of times different manufacturers will have different pin outs on there wires. Never reuse wires like that...really its not even a good idea even if its the same company because of different oem companys they will use in different lines or even between the refreshes of the same lines.

They won't even work together due to proprietary plugs, so that is impossible. I removed the power supply, which ever one I was using, directly from the computer it was being used in and installed it directly onto the motherboard that was being tested. I did not attempt the impossible. You have read WAY too far into what I typed. I am not so foolish as to attempt to get this style plug http://www.overclock3d.ne...09/04/26202825375l.jpg

To fit into this style connector
    http://www.acousticpc.com...c_x460_fanless_psu.jpg

My statement meant that I did not disconnect the wires attached to the appropriate PSU when removing it from its system, to show for a fact that it worked with the other system. As stated, the motherboard is already on its way to EVGA for RMA.

Another note, all PSUs were reinstalled and everything functions, except for the mother board itself. Nothing else has given any issue at all.

yeah I didn't think you would do that because you seem pretty knowledgeable from your older posts, but you never know.... people do strange things sometimes in frustration so I had to ask. I didn't look up the psu's individually, was just going by your post. It was pretty much all I could think of by reading what you wrote, and def was not meant to insult you at all. :)

It has been very frustrating. I spent 4 days prior to the first post trying things. I knew that my buddy had even run the 3930k and tested it with my 780tis, and then I thought maybe it was the issue, so I came to work where we have a 2011 system with a 3820 in it, tore that down real quick and put the 3930k in (thankfully I have tons of TIM, because the stuff on the 3820 was drying out and turning black :() , and booted into the system like a champ. Ran a few tests on it, and everything was great... Just a bummer as I have to go through so many hoops to get the RMA complete because of my address.

These days evga offers non bluetooth verison for dark , so before they ship it back with a working one ask them whether it has bluetooth ( only if you have any use , but I prefer it to be there) .
EVGA Taiwan are really good people. You can get your problems sorted out soon.

Don't need or use Bluetooth. If I get a working board, I will be a happy individual. That is all I need :-)

Thank you for the heads up though.

Received the RMA at my Fiancé's house just a few minutes ago. I have nothing to test it in, so I will be shipping it to myself and grab it there and rebuild as soon as the weekend hits.

Note: I had received the EVGA TORQ mouse pad from the offer, and was waiting to do ship it back.. It fits PERFECTLY inside the motherboard box. I label that another win :-) shipping that guy to myself for free.

Just got the RMA board AND the Nateman Waterblock for it.

Thinking about doing a double upgrade. 3770k to x79 and 4770k to x99.... LoL.

Now I am fully frustrated.  Got the RMA board in, and hook everything up, which comes from a working system, and this one is doing the EXACT same thing.  I have to figure out what is causing this.  It is acting exactly how EVGA boards act when you reset them prior to Boot with the Clear CMOS button.  The power LED does not light up, and once you push the button, it clicks Once and then does nothing.  All of the LEDs on the board Flash when the click happens, and nothing else.  Not sure what to do at this point.  3 PSUs have been tried.  I tried connecting Both CPU 8 Pins. I have tried one stick of ram at a time.  What else is there that I am missing.  I checked the CMOS jumpers, and they are in the correct position.

System Specs, and every thing has been tested in Multiple systems and verified working.

x79 Dark - Won't get a Green Power light or post.
    3930k - Confirmed Working.
    16 GB Adata XPG 1600
Seasonic 1050w - Standard packed cables, no modifications or sleeving.
    Dual SSD's Confirmed working.
Zotac 750Ti (doesn't require 6 pin, reducing cables)

Just found a post saying that Seasonic Powersupplies won't work with this motherboard.  I am going to, Once again, try the enermax power supplies to see if Either of them will allow the board to start up.  This is frustrating, as it takes a while to get the motherboard apart, but I am hoping that this will correct the issue.  Crossing my fingers that this Motherboard agrees with the other PSUs unlike the motherboard prior to RMA.

I will report back tomorrow.  I am entirely too tired to continue on tonight.

I am going to 100% tear Big Brother down, and move the x79 into it for the time being.

Good news, I tore big brother completely down, removed all z87 parts, put the Dark board in (unable to use all 32 gb of Ram, so I need a better case, whoops) and was able to get the mother board to start. I only had it on for a second before shutting the power off, but it is definitely working with this power supply, so I am very grateful that the latest issue was just the seasonic power supply, and not something else. Now that I know it will power on, I will fill the water loop and start running all 3 classies on it until I can get all of the x99 parts.

Thank you everyone for the help.

I wish the first board would have worked with one of the other two PSUs, but I have to thank EVGA for being so quick about getting a new board out.  I have all of my Classifieds back as well, so I have to overclock the CPU and see how everything works.  Should be fun soon.

P.S.  I REALLY need to sleeve the 24 pin and 8 pin.

Grats man.... glad you finally figured it out. :) You were on the right track right from the beginning too. I haven't heard about the seasonic psu's doing that, but ive heard of that type of situation with other psu's in the past, but that makes me wonder if other seasonic based builds have the same issues?!?!?
