Thinking about "upgrading" my 4770k, mine is terrible OCer, only does 4.2 with any kind of stabilty. I know the 4790k isnt doing the 5ghz Intel bragged about but what are the new L4 batches looking like?

4.7 is typical.    4.8 is above average.

These are very hot chips.  Prime 95 the latest batch will shoot small fft temps to 99C instantly, on water.

If you dont have water cooling, pass.

Well my turd 4770k does 4.2 at 1.275 on a full custom EK water loop. SUCKS! Not happy at all with the OC im getting. I can get the 4790k for 279 and i think i can get $200 by selling my 4770k on CL

I haven't played with any OCing, but in Turbo mode I'm running at 4.4ghz and getting in the low 30's.

today I decided to delidded my 4790k chip and change out the thermal paste, I used Coollaboratory Liquid Pro, just on the die not on the heat sink, because I am changing boards next week,so I used mx4 on the heat sink you can see results below.I will test again when I change out board and use Liquid Pro on heat sink as well.

Well I sold my turd 4770k and got a 4790k. So far I've got it at 4.7 , my 4770 would only do 4.2 with stability. In going to let it break in some more and do more tweaking later

So do you think the CLU was worth it?

Did you use nail polish on the caps?
