2012 hand me down car...
dont trash your car up with tints and LEDs.

Take that 800 bucks and have best buy install a alpine deck, alpine type-s speakers and a MTX sub.
Then take the extra 400 and stick it in your pocket.

Non oxygen free copper wire isn't a common application in car audio, it's not very flexible.

Stop making stuff up.

We anneal metals to change their properties and make them malleable. Annealed copper is flexible, oxygen free has nothing to do with making copper flexible or not.

I've provided proof of my claims, nothing has been made up. Where is your proof?

I didn't misunderstand anything. My original post recommending power wires had nothing in it about "non-Oxygen free cables." I clearly stated CCA was not as good as OFC and advised to shoot for OFC cable only. Then you come out saying I'm being a marketing parrot, trying to bamboozle him into buying something he doesn't need. Which by the way... I can't seem to find a company that doesn't do oxygen free cables when it's just plain copper with a decent strand count for flexibility in the 10 gauge or lower range... Please link one for the sake of the OP to save some money if it's that much cheaper... I'm truly curious about your claims. Cause the stuff you would buy from a local home depot would be extremely hard to route, that stuff doesn't bend easy to hide under the side panels, I've tried it.

I'll let you guys work out the OFC/CCA stuff, I've no idea what it all is ultimately lol.

What can I say, she upgraded.

LEDs (if I actually do it, still unsure), would be something that would A) only be in the trunk so I could actually see in it at night, and B) would be easily removable and very subtle.

Tint I probably will do, but it won't be anything crazy like RushXTC, more just to give a bit more privacy and a bit of extra shading from the Florida sun. My sister has like crazy dark tinting that you can't see through. I don't want straight black, more of like a smoked tint. Idea here is to avoid looking like the car has been touched. The stock tint is just too light for my taste.

Not really a big fan of Best Buy, no experience with their car audio though. I may consider getting a pro to install it though once I have the pieces.

here is an enclosure that would be nice.

Reminds me of the cat owned by one of my old roommates.  Spawn of Satan, I say.

More on topic?
Hmmm... I have an '04 Honda Civic 4-door EX with the "mighty" D17A2.  That's about all I have to say.  I don't really have any recommendations other than to enjoy a good car but don't spend money on "upgrades" unless you need an excuse to spend money.

In my opinion, my 7th gen Honda isn't worth the money and in my opinion 8th and 9th gen Hondas are even less worth the money.

I just want something that can rival the quality of my D2000's since I have to drive quite a bit every day.

Worth it? Maybe. I plan on keeping this car for at least a few years out of college (which has 3 years left). Essentially I don't plan on upgrading cars until I can afford a Lotus to be honest.

Still not sure on the 10" vs 12" sub thing, I might have to find people who have them to hear in person or just spring for the 12" and adjust as needed. Might be a better idea to just get the 12" if it doesn't take up too much space.

What would be the effect of a ported sub enclosure vs. a sealed one? And is it a better idea to get the sub and the box separate or as a prebuilt JBL like the one I linked in page 1?

@Direraptor, I would like to stick to just one amp to run all 5 channels if I can. Just to keep things simple and looking cleaner.

Ported sub enclosures are louder than sealed. When looking at 10" vs 12" of the same subwoofer model, generally the bigger one is going to push more air due to more surface area. It's nice to have the extra power there if you want it later, you can always tone things way down. The JL pre-built enclosures are not too bad for the W0's. They are just about the only enclosures i'd recommend other than Digital Designs. Most of the time pre-built enclosures are not large enough. For example... I bought a pre-built Kicker CompR set-up that had two subs. It was nice, but a guy at my work built a box that was almost as big as the pre-built one. It was almost as loud as both of my subwoofers and it sounded better with just the one of the same subs I had. The subwoofer box is going to control how your sub sounds... As someone else stated earlier, a Alpine Type S 12" in a 1-1.5cu sq sealed box might be better for your needs. They are a little bit cheaper and the quality isn't bad, they are basically what the old Type R's used to be.

Well if you must,
I have done several car stereos. I just did a small upgrade to my 2014 Kia Forte.
I wanted to go with focal speakers but decided against it b.c. I kept the OEM deck.
(keeping the original deck requires converters and a few splices, so no reason to buy speakers for a million dollars.)
I really like alpine speakers. I skipped the type-r in this car b.c. amazon was selling component fronts and coaxial rears (6.5") type-s for 154.00 with prime shipping.
I had type-r subs already so I used one of them.
As crazy as this sounds I'm using a Boss amp. Boss uses class A/B in a lot of their amps, so they sound nice. As far as quality, they are rock solid.
I also used for the first time (b.c. I kept the stock deck) a equalizer. EQs will run you anywhere from $20 to $300. For the most part they are all the same.

So what I'm getting at is that Alpine speakers (type s and r) are awesome.
Boss makes a great amp for a reasonable price.
Try an EQ. Night and day difference compared to the built in.
Also get a sealed sub box. Nobody wants to hear you from a mile away.

Best advice and mod is to get yourself a new car. No point in hell upgrading a lawn mower. That is if you plan on upgrading anything to do with the engine and handling. Like seriously man dont waste your money on something like that, you can spend it on something WAAAAAAAY better. Its incredibly cute that the civic SI has like 203bhp LOL. You have a Ford focus, Dodge neon, Mazda 3, Mazda 6, Kia optima, Dodge Dart, VW Golf, VW Jetta, VW Passat, Ford Fusion, Chrysler 200, Hyundai Sonata(turbo),Nissan Altima and more that are faster than it. But if you want to upgrade it with things like putting go faster lights on it(neons) or a sound system by all means. Again stay away with anything that has to do with performance.

It's like saying people would be happy you bought a Dell desktop PC and didn't upgrade the video card. How would adding a premium stereo devalue the car?

Exactly, thanks.

Would it be a bad idea to get the four speakers first once I've picked stuff out, then add an amp, then a sub, and then finally a new head unit? I was thinking that way each part has a noticeable effect.

Reading more into it I think sub wise I'll go with a single 12" sealed in a good and well tuned enclosure. Seems like the best option.

That's kind of how I did it. Really depends on money though, I couldn't afford everything at once, so I parted it together. It worked out for me, cause the 100 square feet of sound deadening took about 16 hours for me to complete. The rest of it probably took about the same.

As for order of adding new things, you will need a headunit before adding an amplifier. A stock head unit won't have 3 sets of RCA's or even 2 sets like you will need.

Ah I see. In that case would it be okay to do:

Speakers+sound insulation
Then head unit
Then amp
Then sub?

This is the stuff I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/FatMat-Self-Adhesive-RattleTrap-Deadener-Install/dp/B003TUNRGM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1407025767&sr=8-2&keywords=fat+mat

That stuff sticks to everything, it's like tar... and it's pretty much the thickest stuff you can buy. That kit from Amazon comes with a plastic roller and a razor to cut it. It's pretty much all you need other than the heat gun. I went up to Home Depot and bought a heat gun for $22 to make sure it stuck to the vertical area's I applied it to. Used about 40-50 square feet on just the 4 doors of my Toyota Corolla.

I used boom mats from Amazon's website.
http://www.amazon.com/DEI-050330-Round-Speaker-Baffle/dp/B0039Z3SRA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1407027060&sr=8-2&keywords=boom+mats
They keep the sound in.
Also you won't need dynamat if you get a sealed (non poprted) sub box and point the sub at the back seat instead of pointing it out of the trunk.

Yes, speaker baffles are nice. I use those as well... completely forgot about those.

After looking at a few things, you might want to get some Dynamat extreme, since it's butyl based... Holds up better than the stuff I recommended that is rubberized asphalt.

It's more expensive, but worth it in the long run.
