As for my setup with an i5-2500k, 2 4GB 670s in SLI and 8GB RAM, I'm shocked, it's not even that bad but far from ideal for the best. My settings are in 1200p on Very High with 8xMSAA and shockingly enough the FPS seems to average between 30-40FPS, at times it'll go higher than 40 and even 50 and sadly other times it'll get below 30 and even below 20 though that isn't too common. For the most part it's smooth to me. I'll say it takes 3 cards to have the best performance with 8xMSAA on though.

Are any of you using adaptive v-sync?  I haven't reallyed played with my settings yet and havent seen many peeps with a similiar setup to mine that has listed their settings.  I am currently using it and no problems to report.

Try using Adaptive V-Sync this seemed to have solved lots of stuttering and page tearing problems in many games I run

With a res of 680x1080 I expect it to, game doesn't go easy on any multi monitor setup at this point.

Re:Crysis 3 hows it run on your PC 2013/03/03 21:02:06 (permalink)
I run Crysis 3 with the following specs on the following settings:

-i7 3770k @ 4.5 ghz (oc'd)
-GTX 680 SC Signature 2 (1241 mhz gpu, 3600 mhz mem)
-16 GB 1600 DDR3 RAM

Game Settings:
-All settings maxed
-FXAA (in game)
-16x AA (control panel)
-16x AF (control panel & in game)
-1920x1080
-55-58 celcius @ 60% fan speed

One good fix for stuttering is to set maximum-pre rendered frames to 1 or 2. As this is a CPU intensive game, this yields good results with a minimal input lag cost.

With these settings I get 60 FPS constant with not stuttering and perhaps the rare drop to ~55fps, and use up about 1300mb-1800mb VRAM (2000mb available). With MSAA or TXAA 8x and beyond, I begin to push the VRAM limit, but FXAA in game with 16x AA in control panel yields very good results. Absolutely buttery smooth gameplay

i5 3570K OCed @ 4.5 GHz
16GB RAM (not worth mentioning but oh well)
evga GTX 690 (with +75 MHz GPU clock offset)
Running at 1920x1080 with everything at the highest possible setting (motion blur disabled).

I always get above 40 FPS. Sometimes i'll average 65+, sometimes 45-50. It really just depends on what's going on in the game. The game runs amazing for me so no complaints here. I guess this build will last me a good 2-3 years.

I honestly don't expect another game to tax my system this much until sometime after the PS4 is released (hopefully that will get developers to ramp up the heat for their PC releases).

I play on a 120Hz monitor so I normally don't enable Vsync for games like Crysis 3.

Re:Crysis 3 hows it run on your PC 2013/03/04 12:32:43 (permalink)
I'm having all sorts of issue.  Some mornings it'll run fine (all settings maxed) for about 45 minutes then freezes and crashes and get the DXGI error message.  Some days only runs for a few minutes.  Got so frustrated I loaded up Far Cry 3 that I played on another machine with Vista and a GTX280 and ran perfectly with no issue whatsoever.  Started playing and after about 10 minutes had the same issues as with C3.  Thinking it was the new video not getting along with DX11 I changed the settings to DX9 -- same problem.
Not sure what's up here but a tech from nVIDIA wrote me the following:
"I understand from your email that you are experiencing issues with the display drivers and getting an error stating "Display driver NVIDIA windows kernel mode driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered".
There are several factors that can contribute to system instability. Since the graphic card is always drawing to your screen, Windows will often report the graphics card or its drivers as the problematic device after a system error. In most cases, the problem is caused by another device or component in your system such as the motherboard, system memory, power supply or hard drive.

1. Corrupted drivers
2. Issue could due to the OS.
3. Or, issue could be due to the other hardware components like motherboard, processor or system memory.
4. Application specific issue.
5. Defective graphics card.
Since you have already tried different drivers and the issue persists, it does not appear to be the drivers that are causing the issue".

I ran FurMark graphics test for about 15 minutes with no issues and temps never got above 85 C

Thanks
Alan

So has this game used over 2GB of vram yet at 1080P? Without AA of course. I saw a couple of people say they peaked around 1.9gb but I have been playing crysis 2 and without using AA have seen as high as 1.9gb of vram usage on my 4gb 680.

Need some game/driver optimizations as dropping to 20% GPU usage then back up to normal then back to 20 over and over again is annoying as hell.

Kinda hard to get an average when your GPU usage is all over the place.

I'm with you on that one... FPS madness

I'm wondering when a patch will be released. Last display driver didn't do much for me.

Hopefully soon as the game is a lag fest at the moment. I was running at 1080P with all settings maxed & was getting anywhere from 60 to 120FPS.

Quad titan's run negative vs Duo titan's.

Wonder if Tri is the same since when Titan's launched Quad and Tri had negative scaling.

I didn't experience any negative scaling with my third titan on metro 2033 bench.

Right when they came out, Tri Titan's where giving negative scores

IE Metro 2033 is working fine here

But look here

9 out of 19 test they did Tri SLI was scaling negatively, and at 1920x1080 it was almost always.  So with driver updates I hope and seeing how 314.14 and onward they get better.

Crysis 3 is surprisingly CPU bound in some cases. It may be that it's less optimization, and more just that the game is a CPU hog.
Nice to see that Cryengine 3 isn't really running much better than 2 in the same large environments, but uses a much beefier CPU. I wonder (Deleted for foul language) happened with that.

Well I could not afford to purchase another video card to replace my aging 5870, however here in 2014 Hexa core Westmere-EP's have come down in price for the 1366 platform. From $1200-1500 down to the $75-80 range for one of the fastest CPU's ever built by Intel, 32nm Gulftown. , and was the single most impressive upgrade I have ever experienced (next to SSD), easily night and day difference (the entire computer and everything it does has drastically improved), and my 930 was always overclocked to 4ghz (200x20) but yet this Xeon made my 4ghz 930 feel like a stock speed dual core. Using a 6 core Xeon (@190x22), 12GB of ram and a single 5870 I am maintaining between 45 and 60 FPS with everything on high. Only using FXAA and a 1920x1080p 120hz Sony Projection TV, but it not only looks amazing it feels smoother than any game I have tried in a while on this old video card. Upping the settings to max is only dropping it down into the 20's fps, which still feels playable in single person. I am shocked that a cheap $75, Hexa-Core 12T CPU upgrade would make this game VERY enjoyable on a old school 5870. I wonder what other games have become playable with a 6 core CPU upgrade? I've also tried BF3 and BF4 and those too are very playable, and very smooth, but I did not manage to record FPS so I have no clue if it got a performance increase due to the new CPU upgrade.

What has me perplexed is the fact I can not tell any difference in PQ between 1680x1050 or 1920x1080p on Crysis 3. Why the heck is that? I tested everything I could but the FPS and PQ seems to be the same or very near the same going from those two resolutions. Does that mean this game is better optimized to use a 6 core 12 thread CPU? During indoor scenes I am pretty much maxed to 60 fps (v-sync on) according to fraps, which again is shocking to me. In any case, with results like this I am not sure what spending hundreds of dollars on a new video card is going to do for me. LOL

IS there any game that would absolutely need me to upgrade my video card yet? Or do I need a higher resolution display (4K) in order to absolutely need a video card upgrade?

If I recall correctly, I ran everything maxed out, but MSAA at 2X just to keep everything at a super smooth rate. This was at 1920x1080. I recall hardly ever dipping below 35FPS and usually between 55-65FPS. This is with the rig in my sig.
