That's fair enough.  Everyone but AB knows what I'm working on.  Seems balanced to me!

Here is the problem, most people tend to think of something they have seen recently. So its natural that those who post a lot and are seen a lot are going to pop into their minds when it comes time for things like this. Its just human nature. If the Lurkers want it to change then they will have to stop lurking and join in on the discussion like you have Kerryd, and even nominate some one for CoTM.

With that said do you have any idea on how to make it more fair than taking nominations and then voting on them? I guess we could go by point production but that list would tend to have the same people on it every month. Not to mention that looking at points and then being so crass as to talk about them will get the vocal "anti point" minority around here on your case.

No, I'm not being sarcastic or condescending, well, maybe I am, but only to the "anti point" crew. I truly would like to find a way to give the unsung hero's around here some time in the limelight.

Points are only a single reflection of a or a grouping of projects. I could crank One million a day with the right project. All the way down to about 4800 in another...

And what if one person can only commit a few cores in the evening. Does that make that person any less valuable to science or our team?

    Absolutely NOT.

I for one think the monthly recognition is for those that are active in production. Active can also be here on the forums offering support. It could be those working other forums, representing our team in a positive manner at all times. And yes, simply producing WU's.

If we start to measure worthiness solely by production numbers, this will turn into another FAH fiasco. And I will not be a part of that.

Can production be a part of a factor for monthly recognition? Heck yes. It absolutely will not become the only factor. Not while I am here.

I leave you all with this thought. I have said from day one, that all members should be on the list. And I have not ever (So to speak) put my foot down on anything up to this point. I certainly do not want to start now. We have all had a wonderful, stress free and constructive communication. I look forward to that continuing.

My goal with this post is not at anyone, it is a strong personal opinion from one who charted this team. I stuck my neck out and embraced everyone for the greater good. That feeling and passion is my fuel. And I for one am damn proud to be a part of this team...

    Keep up the good fight!

    Khalifrio...

As far as lurkers are concerned. Life comes in all flavors. I used to be here 4+ hours everyday. Now I am lucky to put in four a week. Does that mean I am now on this list you speak of? I have been here from 2007. Should that be a measurement? I have 24k+ post and 100+ Blue Ribbons... But because I am not online as often now, I am not worthy? I am pretty sure that is not what you are suggesting, and only offer that as a way to help pull off the blinders and allow a bigger point of view...

No, that is not what I am suggesting at all. As far as I am concerned any one who is on the team and crunches one single work unit is worthy of some kind of award.  And, no there is no lurkers list any where I know of. The point I was trying to get across was that just joining the team and crunching away is not what the CoTM was set up to acknowledge. It is for those that go beyond that.

The CoTM is not based on points, time crunching, or on work units done. All those things are a part of it but only a part. The other part is going beyond just crunching work units. There is no set list of things you need to do but looking at the past CoTM winners they all seem to have done several of the following.

Repeatedly share news or other info about new and current DC projects. Example, every one of the past winners.

Set up and organized team events and help keep track of the events as they progress. Example Punchy and the stats for the Time Zone Challenge.

Simply give a reminder about non team contests. Example, Yodap and his reminders about Prime Grid events.

Sharing tech info on various hardware and how it performs on various projects. Example, bcavnaugh and his testing various GPU's on a wide range of projects.

Help team members solve technical problems with the Boinc client or hardware issues. Example, every one of the past winners.

Taking part in most of the events that come along or just joining in when some one thinks we need to accomplish something in a particular project. Example, every one of the past winners but Orange1050 stands out here. He is always there when some one asks.

That list is off the top of my head and I am sure I forgot a lot of things that could be there. I am not saying you have to be on the forums several hours a day every day of the week either. For most of us we check in daily. But once a week or so for 15 to 20 minutes would do it and not put a crimp on anyone's daily life.

Any way, I think we have derailed Vipers nomination thread enough. Yeah, I know, derailing threads is what we do around here.

Nominations are closed for the month.

The thread though derailed has given me pause to think about how we/I can reach out to the lurkers.  Not all of them are part of the forums here so I think I need to try to rectify that problem.  I'll see if I can contact the individuals there at WCG via their email to let them know that they are part of this team and they deserve the recognition of their team mates.

That said... voting begins as soon as I wake up!

Who new just randomly picking a name off are teams stats page at WCG web site could stir the pot .
Viper got your email from WCG but lol to do that from every bionic project would take for ever.
Khalifrio you have a point but so do I.And this is nothing on you and its kind of hard to see but there is a lot of us that been here from day one or a month or 2 after this team started that where not lurkers back then as AB pointed out. Now we got other things going on ,I still try and log in here daily for a few sec. but can not do it as much as I once did .
And this web site is dead to what it use to be there was all ways ppl. in this section now some times there is no one.
Now the good news are # of crunchers keeps going up even if they are not active on the forums.

Ok now this tread jumped the tracks
