Hi all!

I've been running the 780i SLI(132-CK-NF78-A1) motherboard with great success since 2008 using Windows XP Professional as my OS. I'm using the Intel Core 2-Duo 3.2ghz(E8500) processor with 4-gigs RAM and have had zero issues with the CPU/Mobo since building this unit myself.

I'm now at a point to where I need to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit, and I need some clarification on a few items:

1) According to the pdf on the 780i Mobo, it states the motherboard supports 64-bit XP and 64-bit Vista: "The motherboard supports Windows XP 32bit and 64bit and is Vista-capable."

Does this 64-bit compatibility extend to Windows 7 as well?

2) I've seen on the Microsoft site that a X64 archetecture is required to run a 64-bit OS:

Since the Mobo shows to be 64-bit compatible, do I need to change CPU's in order to be able to run Windows 7 64-bit? (The E8500 specs shows it to have a 64-bit instruction set/data path).

If compatible, I'll be installing a second HDD and installing Windows 7 for a dual boot system.

Am I good to go with this MOBO/CPU combo, or do I need to change any components to run Win7 64-bit?

Many thanks in advance!

Yes it will work, you're good to go..There's some Win7 drivers here for your board..You may run into some other hardware or software compatibility issues though when making the leap from WinXP to Win7..I suggest you download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and check the Windows Compatibilty Center..Would be best to format and clean install, up to you though..I would also lose the OC for the time being and go back to default settings before installing.

Thanks Bob. Nice to know I'm able to use this setup.

I'll be doing a clean install on a 2nd, fresh 500gb HDD.
Yeah, going back to stock settings for the install.
Replacing my GTX 280 with a newly ordered GTX760 SuperClocked w/EVGA ACX Cooler(should be here Friday). I've had excellent past success with EVGA products, so I'll stick with them.

Mobo, CPU and Memory upgrade coming soon.

Windows 7 64bit works fine on this board. Between the EVGA downloads and Windows Update I didn't have to hunt down an additional drivers.
